PTC Perth - Whats happening?

6/7/2012

What an intense night... everyone in here was working their ass off, egging each other on, spotting each other and really bonding well. It's really starting to turn into that awesome training environment everyone dreams of.

OK I've decided to go simply with nicknames tonight, you all know who you are!

* Frenchy - The prowler claimed it's next victim tonight which happened to be Mark.
* Mr White - Before coming to PTC his best deadlift was 130kg. Tonight he did 127.5kgx3x3, he's making great progress.
* The Italian Stallion - Just like Balboa, Perry is a workhorse. He worked with me tonight and it was high volume and intense.
* The Bash Brothers - Ricky and Johnnys warm up is enough to make the average gym-goer puke, even I struggle watching it.
* Chase - Always tuned in to what he's doing and helping others around him. Saw him with Matt tonight going through some of the technical aspects of the push press - great team work! I also think Chase had some issues keeping his food down towards the end of the night... its a rumour anyway ;)
* Dee - Consistent, steady and continuing to make gains all round. I enjoy watching Dee train... being our only female at the moment she's really done well around all this testosterone.
* Wingman - Dave has done well over the last month and is now hitting some barriers... not a bad thing though!
* Danimal - Deadlift PPP tonight plus a huge amount of assistance. Volume+

Well done everyone... another big day tomorrow!

9/7/12

Lots of people came in early tonight, Im thinking it was to get back home and get into bed to

escape the cold. Thanks god the warmer months are around the corner.

Signed a new member tonight, Rob. Hes 30, from Mount Helena, thats around a 50 minute drive

one way. Thats proof that for people who are serious about strength training they will go the

extra distance. All PTC gyms experience the same thing, as Im sure any other good gym would

too. Robs been training at home but once technique coaching and programming.

James Plumb smashedd his modified 5/3/1 program with 137.5kgx5x5 Squats and Prowler sprints.

Frenchy was extra energised tonight and did some extra GPP work after his Monday night

program.

Dave Wingman Squatted up to 57.5kg for 10s, Benched to 45kg, Rowed to 55kg, Pressed to 33.5kg

and SLDL to 80kg.

Chase Benched up to 125kg for doubles and looked strong tonight.

D has been smashing through her squatting, shes progressed to 28kg kettlebells for 20.

Coops has had an interrupted few weeks to say the least. He graced the gym and did a high volume upper body workout.

Mat McAlindon attempted his 140kg Squat PPP but backe it off. He just came off a night shift with no sleep, wish he had of told me that before he put the bar on his back. GO HOME TO BED!

Mat came in with a new self inflicted haircut. We gave him shit for a while then he Squatted like a boss.

Kapish did a set of 3x10 squats then I sent him home because he was sick. GO HOME TO BED x 2.

Spencers' football mates are going to wonder WTF hes been doing, hes going to crush them when the season starts. Aaron has him on an athletic power program, which tonight had him do a max effort upper bosy routine, mobility and core work. Finsihed off with some metcon.

Dan Sienk completed his week 1 PPP Squats, first set had him on 182.5kgx5, he did easily. Assistance exercises included speed sumo, incline DB press, side laterals and DB hammer curls.

Jamie Squatted, thats all I can remember he did his workout so efficiently.

Mat MaiFIA came in, and we talked about his evil plans for domination. He secretly wants to be a mafia godfather. Hes studying Pharmacology and wants to transfer to Commerce. I insisted he stick to Pharma lol.

I trained, PPP squats plus assistance. Need to eat more.

Over and out.

Saturday 14th July 2012

Was my first day back in the gym after being sick all week... not good. It's not uncommon at the moment with it doing the rounds. Ricky is sick as a dog at the moment, he tells me he's lost 5kgs! OUCH!

Saturday is a long day but it always starts the same... me laughing my ass off at the victims of the mornings Body Conditioning Class. A small but consistent class today with Sasa, D, Frenchy and Mr Spillman. Paul is doing a great job running this class, it hurts just watching... as always a stirling effort by everyone. Well done all.

The rest of the day was business as usual. Rob came in for his assessment who will start his new programming next week. He plans on coming to train at PTC at least once a week, I have a feeling that once might turn into twice and perhaps three times.

The usual crew of athletes came through today:

- Kapish
- James "Plumber"
- Dan "Shanks"
- Paul "Ruccopia"
- Dan "Danimal"
- Dave "Wingman"
- Paul "Thommo"
- Anthony "The Pastor"

Thanks to Paul for putting together the new rack, it looks great and will really make the difference in our busy periods. That gives PTC 3 power racks now, giving us 5 possible squatting stations. The monolift and combo rack are also on the way which will add to the specialist gear we have available.

Shanks is putting together a "PTC Perth Training Mix" which includes favourite songs from all of our members... if you have any suggestions let us know! So far Dan has compiled a playlist of about 250 songs!

Another week gone... another busy one coming up!

17/07/2012

This weather is really taking its toll and like many of you I can't wait until it warms up. I'm certainly not the most tolerant to the cold weather. Bring on the hot weather!

Monday is always the busiest night of the week and tonight was no different. That new rack definitely came in handy tonight with so many athletes taking refuge in the racks for most of the night.

For those of you that don't understand the philosophy of our training at PTC... squatting is the primary staple movement that all of our lifters engage in at least twice a week. In fact, most athletes squat 3 times a week at the start of their sessions. Why? Squatting is the most important movement you can do, recruiting the most muscle fibres and hitting your CNS hard - of course when they are done right.

If you are considering some serious training and getting away from the mirrors at the local health spa then come in and have a chat to us.

So who was in tonight?

* Rob "The New Guy"
* Mark "Frenchy"
* James "Plumber"
* Spencer
* Perry "The Italian Stalion"
* Matt "Not the asian one"
* Peter
* Ricky "Mr Bash"
* Dan "shanks"
* D "Dee"
* Paul "Thommo"
* Paul "Rucc"
* Dan "Danimal"
* Dave "wingman"

Special thanks to shanks for compiling the PTC Perth Mega Mix .... 17 hours of music selected by our members. There's some pretty good stuff on there!

18/7/12

Great night tonight, everyone very focussed.

Dave & Jad came in for the first time to see what PTC is all about. Dan and I actually went to high school with the both of these boys. They have been training at a local day spa and are thinking of making the switcharoo. Hopefully, they liked what they saw, lots of heavy weight being moved around. A few of the guys they train with are competing in the bench comp coming up on August 5.

Ricky was in after a spell of man sick. Says he took it easy, still managed 160kgx5 deadlifts, Incline Bench to 40kg dumbells, and one arm rows to 40kg. Johnny who usually trains with Ricky is in Melbourne on a school trip, or so he says. Be interesting to catch up with him when he gets back.

Thommo squatted and hang cleaned. Thommo is sitting the GPC referee exam this week.

D looked solid and we re-visited her bench technique as shes interested in competing in the bench press comp. She pushed out 30kgx3x10 easily, very controlled too.

Dave Wingman progressed through his beginners program. Hes started doing a fourth day of pure GPP.

Mat squatted and benched.

Dan Rooch did a high volume workout, hes preparing for Worlds in Slovakia.

Spencer came in to train, then went to football pre-season training after, wow.

Peter came in for his first night and Squatted, Benched, UDL'ed and through some kettlebells around. Peter is 46yo, used to crossfit in NZ but wants to get strong now.

Dan Sink was in for his bench PPP and assistance work.

I went did bench PPP, front squats and deadlifts, then finished with a prowler complex.

This week the new Muscle Motion rack came in, yesterday the platofmr scales came in, and this morning the JME pull blocks arrived, so looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks.

20th July 2012

Thank god it was a little warmer tonight, the air definitely had the chill off it.

Was a small tight knit crew in tonight, which in fact is becoming a very familiar Friday night crew. While a lot of people are out there at sundowners, eating crap and being slobs, this bunch of people are in a warehouse fitted out gym working their asses off - now thats dedication.

One thing I love to see is people committing themselves week after week, putting in the hard yards, pushing themselves to new limits and most importantly getting results. There's no better feeling knowing you are making progress, whether that be weight loss, strength gains, body recomposition or whatever.

What I love about PTC and the group of people that train here... we all train for a purpose. No one is here to look pretty or pick up girls - in fact we don't want that kind of shit here at PTC. This is a real, focused and serious training environment where you come with a particular goal in mind and we help you get there.

If you train at PTC we expect you are working towards something... we don't want bicep curling mirror muppets in this gym, that's not what we do. So, if you are looking for a serious training environment and are sick of your local day spa/ health club then come in and see us!

On another note, this was the crew that was in tonight:

* "Dee" Dobrilla - Consistent as usual with the weight going up. Dee's consistency will reap dividends.
* "The Ace" Chase - Are you drinking motor oil from that bottle? ;)
* "Frenchy" Mark - After 2 weeks of training he looks healthier and says he is feeling a lot more energetic! His wife doesn't know what to do with him.
* "Mr Bash" Ricky - Coming off a serious attack of the flu he's pushing through every training session fighting to get back to where he was. Knowing Ricky he will, and he will fast.
* "No Nickname" Matt - The quiet achiever. Doesn't say a hell of a lot but he trains hard, you can tell he really wants this.
* "Italian Stallion" Perry - A mountain of potential is waiting to be unleashed. Tonight Perry did his Deadlift PPP + Assistance.
* "Wingman" Dave - Congrats to Dave! Tonight he squatted 70kgx3x10. 6 weeks ago when he first started he failed 70kg miserably. To Rep 70kg 6 weeks later is fantastic progress.
* "Danimal" Dan - Preparing for GPC Worlds I did my Deadlift PPP + Assistance.

Saturday tomorrow... should be a great day with our Body Conditioning Class and the usual crew of suspects throughout the day.

21st July 2012

I'm getting straight to the point today... here's who was in:

Dobrilla "Dee" - Smashed the conditioning class and then Paul had her deadlifting for the first time at PTC. Honestly she has plenty of potential and was picking up 50kg like it was light weight. Her goal of a 115kg deadlift I feel is months away.

Mario "Marz" - Welcome to a new member and today was his first session on his new programming. Good luck Mario!

Hannah "Montanna?" - Hannah came in to register for the upcoming Bench Comp. She's awesome and the bench comp will be her first lifting experience. She's nervous but she's doing the right thing and having a go and pushing the boundaries. I look forward to her training at PTC soon.

Dan "Shanks" - Deadlift PPP. Video @ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgwXyNq3MXY]Dan "shanks" Deadlift PPP Week 3 - 217.5x5 - YouTube[/ame]

Paul "Thommo" - Deadlift day for Thommo... lookin solid.

Spencer "Mr Football" - A lower body session today with squats, reverse lunges, GHR, RDLs and deadlifts. He also completed the Cherry Popper KB complex in 8min 40sec.

Anthony "The Pastor" - Has been sick this week and just came in to grab some more PTC Power Protein. He will be back in next week.

Dan "Danmial" - Added a 4th day of assistance leading up to Worlds.

Paul "Ruccopia" - Deadlift PPP (made to look easy), front squats, DB bench and the Kleenex Komplex. All this extra conditioning work will pay dividends.

I need rest... Dan

23/7/12

What an energising session it was last night!

Spencer benched 65kgx5x5, Dipped, Chinned and one arm DB pressed. Also did some planks and a complex of sled pull throughs, UDLs and thrusters. He went to football practice straight after for some sprints and catching drills.

Perry finished week 4 of his squat PPP, Rowed to 82.5kg and DB pressed to 35kg. Finished off with battling ropes.

Kapish benched, MP'ed and dipped.

Dan Ruc finished week 3 of his 200kg squat PPP and did a heap of assistance.

Ricky and Johnny were in for and deadlifted, pressed and squatted. Ricky is feeling a lot better and will be back to full health next week.

Dave Wingman progressed through his SS program. His squatting is looking a lot stronger, well done Dave.

Rob is loving the PTC environment. Last night he did 72.5kgx2x20 squats, Benched to 77.5kgx2x7, Rowed to 52.5kg, MP'ed to 42.5kg and finished with dips and chins.

Anthony Pas. was in and remains very strict with his lifting.

Dan Shanks finished his week 3 squat PPP of 250kg. This week had him to 5x195kg. Assistance was speed sumo deadlifts, incline DB press and hammer curls.

Thommo came in for his 5/3/1 bench.

Mat. smashed out some 20 rep squats.

Have a few 1-1 sessons over the next week and a few people interested in joining which is great.

We have 2-3 members sitting the GPC referee exam in preparation for the bench comp in a few weeks time.

Over and out.
