PTC Perth - Whats happening?

20/06/2012

Dave "wingman" is progressing very well through his program, time to start adding more weight mate!

Matt had his second session tonight and he seemed to steam roll it pretty well. I have yet to have a nickname for Matt, will work on that.

James "The Plumber" aways has a strong work ethic. Was on his deadlift 531 night tonight and again finished up with some low bar trap bar deads.

Kurt "Big K" came in to get his bench opener in for the GPC Nats. He is opening this weekend with 180kg squat, 95kg bench and 180kg squat. Best of luck mate!

D is very consistent and steady. She will realise her dream of a 115kg deadlift I have no doubt. For those wondering... 115kg is the number because that was she weighed when she made her life changing decision to loose weight and get fit. She's now around 70-80kg, can't remember off the top of my head so she's done very well.

Ricky "The T-1000 Advanced Prototype" is like the T-1000, there's nothing stopping this guy when he steps his foot in the gym. Its brilliant he has introduced his brother the T-800 model to strength training.

Jonnhy "The T-800" is under the wing of his brother the superior T-1000. He's also had 3 amateur boxing bouts and is continuing to box. Watch this space.

Dan "shanks" came in for some speed work pre-Nats. He's ready.

Dan "Danimal" had speed work pre-Nats and managed a 100kg powerclean PB.

Jamie obliterated his second night tonight. He's looking solid and I look forward to seeing the weight go up in the next 2-3 months to see how he handles it. Lot's of potential here.

Adam "Mr Crab" started his 210kg PPP cycle tonight. I need a nickname for Jamie.

Paul "Ruccopia" had a date with the power rack but wasn't feeling the most energetic. Managed a 150kgx5 but he wasn't here tonight. He attempted the KLEENEX KOMPLEX but even that beat him. He needs more rest.

GPC Nats this weekend.... big, very big! Best of luck to all competitors in all states. If you can't make it you can watch the whole comp live on JustinTV at http://www.justin.tv/gpcaustra

A cold quiet night at PTC Perth. On a personal level I'm pumped for GPC Nats this coming weekend - can't wait.

Was a quiet tonight... a lot quieter that it has been.

Kapish "The Paki" came in for another session and after having a chat to him about how we can help him improve he has decided to become a full member. Tonight I had him benching to a 12-inch box, goblet squats, benching and some trunk work on the torsonator.

Matt "The Doc" was in for a quick in and out session. He squatted 110kg 5x10, 5x3 push press and 3x3 deadlift.

Shane "Mr Pain" came in on a casual to do some deadlifting on our platforms. Shane was in about week ago for a 1-1 with me and we went through his squat technique, which he was happy with. Tonight he worked up to a 1RM max on his deadlift and hit a PB of 202.5kg.

Paul "Thommo" smashed out his squat 5/3/1 and stuck around the the usual chat. Paul's a great bloke to chat with. He's so wrapped we opened around the corner from his place! Who wouldnt? :)

Anthony "The Attorney" was going through his training as meticulous as always with a 3x10 squat to an 18-inch box, 5x5 bench an 2x15 good mornings.

Well that's me out until next Tuesday. Tonight Paul and I are on a plane to the sunny sunshine coast and GPD Nats this weekend. Aaron will be the man in charge Fri/Sat/Mon. Have fun, train hard!

Friday 22/6 (written by Aaron)

Well it was better than I thought it would be with the cold snap thats hit Perth!

Dave was first in to bat tonight ripping through his mobility prep and than smashing his way through the program. He is showing that persistence pays off as he has kept to his routine and its showing in both his sturdy form and his total kg!

After a real good chat and stretch Dobrilla showed us why she has come so far. She hammered through her program and will be back bright and early for a killer met con session with yours truly! MWAHAHAHAHA

Brothers in arms, Ricky & Johnny really got the place pumping with their high intensity training and energy both are great lads with massive potential. Very inspiring to have around boys :)

Adam had the torturous 20 rep squat routine going which brought back painful memories but he made it look easy than moved on to some solid benching and finished off with everyones favourite.......BATTLING ROPES......yay

Brother Chase was looking big and happy as usual, he's a great bloke to have a chat to and has his feet firmly set to walk his path! Its going to be good to watch him grow!

The Coach (Aaron) Pushed through some mobility work, rehab and than flirted with some light deads, banded pull ups and finished off testing myself on some body squats. It was good to get some blood through the old body again :)

Thanks for the inspiration peeps and ill see you all bright and early for tomorrows met con session- Night-

Saturday 23/6 (written by Aaron)

Met Con madness - Dabrilla, pierre & Josh showed us how it was done today as I pushed them to their max with a brutal workout:

50 seconds on 10seconds off
2.5minutes rest between sets

1A. step ups + O/h plate hold
2A. Battling Ropes
3A. Goblet Squats

1B.Prowler push
2B.Lunge + O/H plate twist
3B.KB Swings

1C. Hanging Leg Raises
2C. Shuttle Runs
3C. Agility Ladder Drills

1D. 5 x 60m Sprints

Great to see everyone pushing boundaries and holding back the yak :) well done!

Adam was told to check us out by wingman on the forums so a big thanks DAVE for the support :) He's a great kid with a lot of potential that wanted some help with his squat and dead technique. So after filling his head with technique queues and mobility drills he was squatting like a machine. I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of him around.

Dave completed 3 rounds of the kleenex KB complexes which had him on the floor in no time :) nice work mate your conditioning and strength are shining through.

James came in with the plan of pushing out his 20 rep squats than doing some "light pressing" which ended in some great push presses and pushing out 2RM sets on bench.......nice light pressing Oh and next time...unload your bar ;)

Andrew was smashing out the program as well and we worked on his external rotation problem which will definitely help him lift some serious weight on his path to get "STRONG"

Paul continues to improve week to week and today was no different. He hammered through some really good bench, and its good to see the dedication in regards to his mobility routine keep it up mate :)

Anthony was the last of the PTCPerth athletes to walk in the door today and although he is a novice lifter his form was fantastic! I expect to see some really good growth in the next few months.

To all the athletes today thanks for the chats its always good to hear that so many of you keep up with your own study into the goings on of the human body and exercise programming . Keep it up as knowledge is power and power = force x velocity LOL

Have a great weekend all and come on the EAGLES!!

Monday 25/6 (written by Aaron)

Awesome crew in tonight! There was some heavy lifting and some heavy spewing (Culprit unknown). Heres the nightly breakdown:

James rocking his end of month 531 heavy session and killing it in his pretty new lifting shoes!

Wingman belting out another great workout and progressing with his 2.5kg every week :)

Nathan got cozy with the GHR and a killer routine

Chase Smashed through his workout loaded the prowler than walked around eyeing the prowler off did some ab work continuing to eye the prowler off than proceeded to unloaded the prowler lol next time boi.

Joey was bouncing off the walls with a great attitude and work ethic. He has stuck with his program and is looking sharper through out his ROM. Nice work mate.

D is an absolute machine is showing the boys how its done. Consistency and progression peeps we can learn a thing or to from this girl, keep up the good work D your looking stronger every session :)

Perry's workout and form is very solid after not being in the game for a while. Whilst still on his 1 week pass he continued to suss us out but we all know he's gonna join...who doesn't love us....right?

The "Bash Brothers" Ricjy and Johnny continue to inspire me every time they hit the gym floor there workout from beginning to end is as professional as I've seen these boys light up the gym floor with MASSIVE INTENSITY!!

Adam came in late and hammered through his workout set by set even though he could taste what he had for lunch. Than proceeded to pick my brain about a lot of nutrition stuff (which ill post in the article section of the website for all of ya)

All in all a great night had by all even I got a bit of a session in! But really guys thanks for heating the place up.....seriously it was bloody cold!

Ill leave you with this: "When you feel down and worthless...Remember you were once the fastest sperm"

Goodnight ill be here all week

Well it's my first night back in the gym and it was nice to share the nationals experience with some of the guys. Next year we hope to bring a lot more to compete in the nationals and it's some of these guys tonight we hope to take over.

Tonight was business as usual though with a solid bunch of guys hitting the iron.

Perry "The Italian Stallion" is quite impressive. He has a solid strength foundation from all those years of playing soccer at a pretty high level in this state. Perry is joining and has his assessment this coming Friday, I'm expecting a pretty solid athlete all round - going to be interesting to see his progress over the next 6-12 months.

Glen "Coops" was back in the gym after a week of due to family commitments. Welcome back Coops and Im sure it wont take you long to get back in to the swing of things.

Anthony "The Careful" was routinely going about his training progressing with the weights. We are still trying to push him and help him overcome that mental barrier. I think I made a breakthrough tonight when he decided to add 10kg more on his 2x7 bench. He only managed 6 reps at 60kg but at least he knows where he is now, so next week he will attempt the 2x7 at 55kg. Much better Anthony, well done mate.

James "The Plumber" was killing his Bench 5/3/1. I saw the weight on that bar and it was impressive! Keep up the goo work Plumber... nice shiny shows by the way ;)

Chase "The Ace" loves the solitude of training. Tonight he had his ear phones plugged in and he looked focused. He managed a PB on his bench pushing out 130kg for 2 reps.

Jamie "no nickname, yet" was at his 20 rep squats again tonight and completed both sets, well done mate. Be consistent with these each week and it won't take long for you to see the benefits. 20 reppers FTW!

Dan "shanks" was training for the first time after nationals and he seems more determined than ever. I feel the next few months are going to be pretty intense and I'm looking forward to it. Dan wrapped up tonight to get some practise in and managed a PB of 200kg for 5 reps.

I also trained for the first time since Nats and like Dan am feeling determined and goal driven. I squatted to 120kg for 20 reps... was intense.

Good work everyone, every week I am seeing progress across the board! Thanks Aaron for covering for Paul and I while we were away.

Wed 27th June

My first night back in the gym since Nats. (Paul here).

James was in early to run through his 5/3/1 deadlift program and some other stuff. We talked about running a sheiko cycle for his next program.

Mat followed soon after and squatted.

Adam the crab front squatted then after his program finished with a prowler complex.

Dave "wingman" ripped through his beginners program, its starting to challenge him now as he gets closer to man weights.

Alex returned after a good week off due to illness. He still managed to increase his weights from the previous time he was in.

Dobrilla, like clockwork, ran through her program. D's becomming interested in Powerlifting and even started researching what the girls are lifting. I was well impressed, she even stumbled across Henry Days articaly about WA Powerlifting, and we had a quick chat about that, more to come on that though.

Spencer emailed me yesterday. He plays American Football in Ashfield. Came in last night, was impressed, signed up and is going to try get his team mates to come down for their pre-season which starts in about 4 weeks. Their season runs through summer, for 4 months.

Johnny and Ricky "The Bash Brothers" came later in the night, probably a good thing because most people would faint watching these guys train. Ricky smashed through a 5x8 set of squats at 132.5kg, 30 seconds rest.

Had a guy walk in early, from a crossfit gym in the northern suburbs. He enquired about olympic lifting coaching. I asked him if the crossfit provides coaching on these lifts, he said they do, but they were crap (his words not mine). Hes going to book in for some 1-1 coaching.

Abaddons mate came in last night as well, he wa a the open day and wants to start training again after some time off. Hes going to sign up in the next week and we'll have him down for his assessment.

Id like to finish off by congratulating Dan S, Kurt and my brother Dan for their outstanding efforts at the Nats over the weekend. I can already see that this has motivated them to train harder. Next week all three will be starting on PPP.

Next year we hope to have a bigger team again and improve on our success. Watch out for WA!

Was quiet tonight but nonetheless everyone got on with their training. Spencer came in for his assessment. He found us on one of the forums, I think he said AusBB - great!

Spencer plays american football for a club in Ashfield and he is actually the strength coach in the pre-season. He is coming to us at PTC Perth to improve his performance as the league is starting to get pretty serious in terms of strength training and it's important to stay on top of the game. He also plans to try get more of the guys in for group sessions at minimum. We look forward to working with the team as they prepare for their first league game in October.

Jamie was getting busy tonight with 105kg 3x10 squats which was a great weight for him. He is now approaching his limit on the 3x10, that's where the fun begins. He also managed 64kg UDLs repping out 30 and then 16. I told him to move up to the 80kg KB next week to see how he goes.

Anthony is starting to understand the concept of "push yourself", but is still a little reluctant. Every night I'm pushing him that little bit more... we will crack him! Nonetheless he is making progress which is great.

Dan "shanks" tried to mimmick his programming we have set up starting next week. He benched, did walking lunges then sumo speed pulls. Dan will be starting 3 PPP cycles for his 3 lifts, 250kg squat, 130kg bench and 280g deadlift - some very decent numbers!

Paul "Thommo" had his pressing night tonight and as usual worked hard. Thommo is very consistent and in the long term that's going to make a massive difference. I had a look through his training journal and it was very structured, he's on the right path.

We are about to do the pre-order for PTC Perth apparel so if you want anything check out PTC Shop - PTC Perth - merchandise - t-shirts - hoodies - gym bag and let me know if you want to order anything. Do it ASAP!!

We were expecting more gear in this week but looks like it will be in next week. That being the new power rack and pull blocks. We have also ordered the new monolift and expect that to be 4-6 weeks away roughly.

The day started off with our Body Conditioning Class and it was great to see everyone pushing themselves. Welcome to two new members who manned up and joined in on the class - Perry and Mark. I was watching the session and it was intense. Some of the movements included KB Swings, KB Thrusters, Farmers Walk, Landmines, UDLs, Box jumps, Rope work and Hurdles.

Adam "The Crab Walker" was in for a quick session, to be honest I blinked and he was gone.

Chris Cooper came in for a 1-1. Chris has been doing a Ripptoe starting strength program for about 3 months but feels like he is stalling and wanted to firm up his technique. Today we worked on his squat and bench. He wasn't too bad to be honest he just required a couple of queues and he was squatting like a pro. He's back in next Saturday to go through his deadlift and powercleans.

Dave "Wingman" has made fantastic progress in the last month. The weight is progressing in the right direction and he actually looks a lot healthier and confident.

Jamie is steaming through his program and his form is looking good.

Coops was back in today making the best use of his time and did 5x5 on all the major compound movements. We wish you and your family the best of luck Coops, hope your little girls pulls through.

Alex "Mr 10x10" is always pretty quiet but he works hard. Aaron did the programming for Alex and it's pretty out there so will be interesting to see the result Alex gets. Every week I check out his log book and the number of reps and weight goes up so he's doing something right.

James "The Plumber" came in for an extra session and brought his girlfriend Caitlan in as well for some punishment. While James got busy doing some press work I had Caitlan doing some prowler, ropes, landmines and finished her off with tabatta thursters.

Thommo was in for his deadlift 5/3/1 and he is progressing very well. He's planning to achieve a 200kg deadlift early next year some time. He's on track.

Anthony "Bloodbath" is breaking through barriers and for the first time today his leg was bleeding during a deadlift set. I was actually impressed... what I found funny was straight after he asked if I wanted to wipe it down with disinfectant. haha nice one Mr Bloodbath!

I trained today as well... feeling a lot more motivated now after Nats!

Well that's another week over at PTC Perth... I need rest!

2/7/12

PTC Perth - 1 month old.

It was fitting that tonight we had the most people come in weve had in the first month.

Spencer was in for his first training session. Spencer plays American Football and his workout last night was taxing. His fellow team mates are going to wonder WTF hes been up to when hes stronger, bigger and faster than they are.

D is getting strong. Her goal of a 115kg deadlift is looking good. Shes throwing more weight around than some of the boys! Hopefully Michelle visits us soon so D wont be the only girl in the gym. heh.

James "Plumber" was in early, hes like clockwork and a solid work ethic too.

Alex returned for his brutal GVT like programming written by Aaron.

Matt squatted for 20 reps, twice. A solid effort too completing his full work set.

Perry was in fir his first training session. I (Paul) trained with Perry because we have very similar strengths. We did our PPP squat and some assistance and ended it with a rope complex.

Danimal was in and did a whole lot of pressing work, including his bench PPP, stating is was ridiculously easy.

Dave "Wingman" strolled in and hes progressing nicely on the beginners programming.

Chase squatted ATG and did a heap of assistance work.

Ricky and Johnny the Bash Brothers turned up the intensity with some overhead pressing, incline bench press and smashed through a rope complex. Im sure they did more as well.

Jamie was in for his 20 repper squats 85kg and smashed them out, plus assistance work.

Paul Thommo returned for his 5/3/1 bench press. Dont forget to check out Thommos blog.

Adam "The Crab" said he felt like he was getting his strength back. He also squatted for 20 and did assistance. Adam and Mat Mai finished with a KB Death complex.

Mat Mai too was in for 20 rep squats, assistance and finished himself with that Death complex.

It was a great night last night, the atmoshpere was great and at one stage all of the bars were in use as well as all of the platforms and squat stands, and benches too I think. Good think we got more gear arriving in the next week or two.

Just a reminder that we have a Bench Press comp early August so if you are interested please let Dan know and he can pre-register you. You dont have to be able to bench 3 plates or even 2 plates, get in there, have fun, learn something and motivate yourself by competing in this friendly club comp. Already have 7 registered.

Paul

4/7/12

Tonight we had in D, James the plumber, wingman, Ricky and Johnny Champion, Joey, Mat, Perry, and French.

Guy called Paul came in for some 1-1 coaching, a regular on the AGJ forum. Hes 38 and has been running the Rip starting strength program since last August. We tweeked his squat, deadlift and bench press technique and he finished some working sets. Worked up to 105kg squats and 125kg deadlifts. Hes a great guy and he may be in Saturday morning for the GPP class.

Everyones training hard and I can definately see everyone progressing since week 1. Noteably D, who is now GHR'ing like a champion and also Wingman who is looking a lot stronger in his program, especially squats.
