P.A. - tested Fed, PA allows neoprene sleeves only,

(even though I personally know one person who competed in a P.A. event while taking gear)

Just to be clear, PA is a drug tested federation. It's not "drug free". That's why there is a list on the ASADA web site listing all the people who have been pinged in tested sports, including some powerlifters and a rather large group of rugby league players smoking the Jamaican "erb". Also, drugs that can have you banned can be taken legally if you have a Theraputic Use Exemption.

GPC has always promoted competition in weight classes, something PA does not. GPC does not recognize age divisions in competition - they are for records only.

I dunno where this comes from. All competitions in PA are divided up into weight classes, not age classes. Results are for weight classes but you can also win an age category. For example, one person can win the weight class while another, in that weight class, can get a gold for winning a masters or juniors or sub juniors division.

Records, both world and national, are based on weight but also divided up into age classes as well. So you can have someone who is a lifter of a certain weight and a masters 1 lifter have a masters 1 squat world record that is also the open world record, as the weight lifted is greater over both age categories. Same for sub juniors or juniors. Say a 105kg class sub junior deadlifts 400kg, setting a sub junior world record. He would also set a Junior and open world record, but all in the same weight class.

I think this is similar for CAPO/GPC. To win a weight division, you gotta lift the most weight in total. But you can also set age category records. They just don't have masters winners.

- shallow Squats? untested Fed. [This is not a capo rule, as Sticky pointed out. Its crappy judging, for whatever reason.

Oh, and PA does have Masters championships where only masters lifters compete. Also there are comps that include sub juniors and juniors but if you are a masters lifter you are in the open division only, no masters awards made.

What in the actual fuck man.

I didnt call you a fucktard directly?
I merely said that it happens. And i say much worse things to my mates. [emoji14]

And who is crying over inferior lifts? Im not jealous of one single lifter in this world, let alone on an internet forum. I lift for me. :)

I dont understand where the fuck you are coming from man. Ever.

who are the fucktards you are referring to exactly timmy?lol as if calling me a fucktard "indirectly" is any better.

truth is a lot of sports now depend greatly on masters.

Athletics is a classic, heaps of masters competitors.

No, I reckon it is right to reward the old codgers, regardless that I am one of them.

look i have felt a bit of shall we say ..jealousy coming from younger lifters in the opens who are better, that didnt make the aussie side.is it unfair to pick a masters lifter over a superior open lifter?
is the whole concept unfair?

I know you are joking woody, nfl has best athletes around. If haines gets a regular game in NFL, it will be one of aust's great sporting achievements.

Of course I am. Footy players, such as AFL, running km's non stop for 2 hours while getting hit. Same for rugby. I would be snotted just running for the ball after kickoff. I was using hyperbole to make a point.

If you look at all sports, they are all inherently stupid. But we love them. The are absorbing and entertaining. If you play them and do well, they are hugely satisfying.

With powerlifting, the same applies. Just because someone in the audience is bored because it does not ring their particular happy bells, does not mean its a bad sport or bad entertainment.

I could catch up on a lot of sleep and my crochet if I went to a cricket match. Other people would be half naked, painted blue and waving a 20m long flag. It depends on what rings your bells.

If someone were to find powerlifting boring, they probably have either never done anything remotely approaching a soul destroying workout. Or they need something very different in structure. Powerlifting is a single person sport. There is no competitor on the platform with you, nor a big team with you or against you. Its just you and the bar. Some people cannot deal with that. They need group therapy.

that information was quoted from Sticky's post. I'll edit O.P. shortly Woody.

Another difference is GPC has always promoted competition in weight classes, something PA does not.

This means, instead of rocking up and winning by default, you actually have to beat people - that's what powerlifting actually was originally about. A lot of comps, especially something like the Nationals will have 10-20 lifters in each class.

if you would like some further info on GPC, please feel free to email me at scott@ptcbrisbane.com :)

As a side note, I'm bringing Stan Efferding out in May to attend our nationals (which will have around 300 competitors over 6 days in surfers paradise) which will be awesome.

I left the rest in to help promote Sticky's event lol

Don't forget that there are women lifters too, the great ignored contingent of powerlifting. They have wilks rankings in the high 400's.

I like most sports.

Powerlifting has always interested me because great test of 'absolute strength'.

I will compete in a few comps this year, just deciding at moment which one.

You're just trying to get laid.

Yes, GPC has female lifters too. Does CAPO?

I was reading somewhere that IPF is close to 50/50 male / female competitors, fairly impressive IMO.

Yeah it's not so much rule discrepancies or lack thereof between feds, it's the judging more so, especially with squats and bench.

$165 for open lifter to join PA. Even more than weightlifting.

GPC and CAPO $80

woody, how much does it normally cost to enter ordinary PA meets and national masters champs.

Gawd knows!!! But hopefully it ends with @Silverback ; finding out how old gerry. is though!
-He was born around 72, 73 or 74. His birth date was written in the thread where Timeah; dug up some dirt on gary and posted it (when he beat up the 13 yo) , not sure what the exact thread was or whereabouts, but you will fond it there.
