Ptc Sydney - Whats been happenin

Well the other blocks in the estate I'm buying in havent been bought yet, build the PTC on one of those :P

Hi Trent,

I'm interested in attending some of your workshops etc, i actually live pretty close to your gym.

I was just wondering what style of squats you teach?

How low to you teach people to go, which way do you teach them to position the head? (Look up, straight, down etc)

How much would you charge for a session to coach form on lifts? I particularly want to learn the Power Clean, but I also want to work on my form for Squat & Deadlift.

I'm not a very advanced lifter, i just started lifting 2 months ago and worked my way up to a 5RM of:
Squat - 105
Bench - 72.5
Deadlift - 130
Press - 50

I'm not Trent (obviously :P), but as I run the workshops figured I could answer some q's.

Trent teaches new guys high bar, I prefer to teach low bar to beginners. I have no issues with high bar provided the mobility to do it correctly is present, I just find this very rare.

High bar - as low as they can, low bar - just under parallel.

Head position is generally the least of my worries when coaching someone in the squat :D

1on1 with me is $50, group rates available etc. I believe Trent is $50 1on1 to, but don't quote me on it - I'm sure he will be along shortly if he hasn't already replied by the time I hit post haha.

Squat workshop is this weekend if you're interested - check the workshop thread for deets.

Moons
I'm of the belief that low bar has much better carryover to overall strength gains everywhere whereas highbar just has carryover to front squat / olympic lifts.

Would you agree?

If so, why teach high bar to beginners?

I think it's a bit of a wank, really. There are enough assistance exercises that the potential short-comings of either are not a factor with smart programming.

If someone comes in and has the mobility to squat high bar correctly and prefers it - I have no issue with them using high bar. As I mentioned, the majority of people I see do not fit in this category and in that case I will teach them low bar - which pretty much everyone can do.

I have used high bar, low bar and front squats in my own training at different times - they all have a place.

Hi jdeb - chris moons whom is also a coach here teaches both low bar and high bar. I teach high bar to beginners if they are not interested in powerlifting and would one day down the track do oly lifting as well.

Chris Moons does the majority of the 1-1's at PTC sydney now.
The price is $70 bux and it incldues going over your squat/deadlift/power clean.
Also included are any questions on mobility/flexability work that u might have or we can identify during that time to improve your lifts :)

hey guys, thanks for the replies..

I'm more interested in learning the lowbar squat.

moons - my brother & i started lifting in our garage together but we're both interested in getting some coaching, neither of us do the powerclean so we'd like to learn that lift, but also just get some coaching on our squat, deadlift form etc.

How much would you charge to do a session with both of us, and what sort of hours of availability do you have? Are you available on weekends?

EDIT: I'd send you a PM but im not allowed until i get to 10 posts :(

First official session today at PTC. I'm in mixed emotions as I loved it and hated it at the same time. Great people, great atmosphere and I'm planning on getting great results. training log coming soon.

Lazy. I even went to check that you guys have a VPS at crazy domains with your MX pointing at it to ensure that you can receive emails on the name.
