Slightly Changed around both charbel and stefans programming after they joined the gym. Previous PB's were 210x5. 3 weeks in and more anterior work.
220x5
The atmosphere at this place just continues to get better and better as more guys (and girls!) Get a little more serious about thier training.
Also having guys like big ray masinuia siakia around recently has been awesome.
The nats team have all mostly been training together also the past couple of weeks, and that in itself has been producing some good pre comp rep pb's and many a killer session.
Big Congrats to Deng Anthony Majok who has recieved a full scholarship with the adelaide sports academy in basketball.
I remember deng coming to the gym with 2 shoddy knees that hurt every time he landed. It wasnt from any injury. Basically it was just due to lack of strength in his legs add in the fact he played non stop comps all year round.
Training at a commercial gym didnt help and doing upper body only as a basketballer doesnt quite make sense. Seems to be a common trait with some of the aspiring athletes.
3 months of squats/knee re-hab later along with cutting back on his games.
Yielded him jumping inches higher pain free and on court speed has dramatically increased.
He recently passed all trials to obtain the scholarship.
His future goals are to play in asia or one of the national teams.
Another big shout out to Isaac Nyembo whom tried out for the melbourne Tigers basketball team last week and made it into their development squad as a point guard. The hardest position to play from what ive lead to believe.
The trials had him playing several games and he ended up beating 80 other tough applicants to be the last two selected.
He has tried unsuccessfully in the past prior to training at ptc make it into other junior development teams over the last 2 years. Mostly relying on his court skills alone.
I remember his figures when he started lifting 4 months ago. Some of the girls lifted more
Well TBH he couldnt go past quarter squats. He was tight everywhere in terms of mobility.
Nevertheless persistence to over coming these hurdles and sticking to what he thought was a "boring" strength program has yielded explosive on court results along with a 2 handed rim dunk. Where as before he could only use one.
He still has one more trial with the sydney kings this friday.
Heres to wishing him the best and many more doors opening up
