A result of your environment

The couple of guys associated with AFL level footy that I've spoken to all say something along the same lines. "We only really do compound lifts in the pre/off season. It's not very often in a game that you're on your back and need to bench press somebody off you, so it's not important for in season training". Same principle applies with deads and squats to most of them but I would argue the overall and especially core strength gains are under estimated. They're pretty much twigs but you kind of have to be when you're covering 12-20k's a game

Things that will massively improve your game in footy are:
Improving your skills
Knowing how to read the play
Endurance.

Lifting weights will likely help but is secondary to those in afl . Most afl players are weak as piss and still superstar players.

Also. I'm pretty sure I have that book in my bookshelf somewhere.

I used to read Dr. Verkhoshanskys forum when he was still alive.

It's funny how you disagree with over a decade of sports science that suggest performance increase and injury prevention because you play football. Despite the fact you never achieved the elusive double body weight squat and constantly complain of your fucked knees from playing.

Nice try Oni but you managed to get everything wrong in that post. No surprise really.

I achieved over a double body weight squat and not at a teenage girls bodyweight. Lol

I am also not disagreeing with sports science. I am totally agreeing with it. I said lifting will help performance but not as much as the other things I mentioned, ( skills, ability to read the play and endurance) Which is what anyone involved in training footballers will agree with. Are you seriously disagreeing with that?

You have no idea how my knees got fucked and squats didn't help them. They made them worse. I was even told by two separate specialists that work with afl clubs that my legs were already plenty strong enough for footy and to stop squats to allow my knees to recover but yes you would know better. Lol.

And I'm sill available to give you some tips on your deadlift. You would think you should have a better deadlift than a footballer with fucked knees by now. Lol.

Stupid AFL clubs, all this time they've been employing professionals who don't know what they're doing when they could have just come to AUSBB to get the advice they need...

Let's hope they know about this website so they can finally start training their athletes properly.

I'm not sure if your are replying to me. I am saying the clubs have it right or closer to right than any of us, including the great Oni, could do.

There's too much money in football. One of the issues they have is that they never follow any one person's advice completely or for long enough to find out if it works. There's the strength coach, the power coach, the handball coach, the physiotherapist, the myotherapist, the club board of directors, blah blah blah. One guy says, do this, another says, oh no we can't do that, and... so they sort of half-try everything.

Like when DR went to Essendon and added in lots of strength training, they didn't take out all the running. He'd said, we'll have to drop some of this running, but they wouldn't do it. Result, first half of season smashing it, second half everyone dropping out with injuries. Would they have been better with less running? More? We'll never know - they didn't substitute one for the other, they just added this other thing in.

Think of it this way, if you have 3 workouts a week and 3 different trainers, and you get better or worse... who helped you? who hurt you? You don't know.

They always do this sort of thing. Thus an average 8 guys out of 44 out with an injury at any one time.

To really know if someone's approach works, you have to follow that to the exclusion of all others for a while. But that would be taking a risk, and nobody will take risks with tens of millions of dollars. This is why $1 million movies are creative, and $100 million movies are formulaic. Same with sports. There's too much money in a football team for them to follow any one person's advice.

Don't worry about Oni, he would just give them all copious amounts of vitamin T.

You said before that your best squat was 190kg at 100-110kg without wraps
Nice lies bazza

Keep digging. Didn't want to address the rest of the stuff you got wrong?

So you know every lift I have done at what bodyweight. Lol.

My 190 was Olympic style squats. Which I will check I may have done at mid 90s bodyweight anyway. Lol.

I have done 200 low bar when I was a heap weaker than the 190 Oly squat but gave up on low bar because while I could lift more with it it didn't feel as beneficial.

Powerlifting height squat. Never attempted maxes with such high squats.

I also managed to get above 60kg BW without gear. Lol. Give up buddy.

Still want help for your dead?

No mate I'm on your side here...
I can't believe there are people here that think they could make suggestions to an AFL club...
I've seen pictures of AFL players doing power cleans, box squats and overhead pressing....that's probably all the strength training they need...and I think they know what they're doing without 0nis advice.

Funny how the guy with the body weight of a "teenage girl" can still squat more than you irrespective of bar position and wraps
deadlifts are going amazing for me right now as well, I'll be well above 600lb by the end of the year and still under 80kg :)

I haven't squatted at all for probably a year or been able to get an consistent squatting in for 3 or 4. So congratulations you as a powerlifter can squat more than a footy player who doesn't even squat. Lol. What an achievement that is and that's about your standard. And I still out lift your future predictions for your deadlift. Lol. Again congratulations.

How did it feel when you realised you were so useless you needed to get on the gear to move above 60kg bodyweight, 80 bench and low 200s dead. It's that why you try and act so tough on here, to make up for that pathetic effort.

I also forgot about when you got caught out from posts on another site about your gear use then tried to claim you were framed with someone else impersonating you. Lol.

Then tried to claim that you were using but not at the dosages posted on the other site. Again lol.

You still playing footy Al?

Except that didn't happen. Framed? Lol. There is an account on getbig called oni. Nothing to do with me and I never claimed it was a set-up. I asked LPS if it was him and he said no. Keep up the hating Bazza, I get a massive erection every time you post

I don't play it any more nope. My club is in the rough area of Adelaide and people kept fighting each other with fistfulls of broken glass (srs)
I still train with them once a week though, it helps with the powerlifting

Oh I must be hating that you lift less than me. Oh how I wish I could be on gear and lift less. Lol.
