The truly exceptional athletes peak at the right time. We seem to miss peak far too often. Its not a one off. Magnussen comes to mind as well. World records and world champ failed at the last Olympics.
 
The backstoker as well who's name escapes me was world champ and couldn't place in Beijing. Matt *****
 
Olympics always harder than world champs; winning Olympics gets you more sponsors and is still held up as pinnacle of sport y most swimmers.

ok, you know it all. perhaps he had to swim so hard just to make final? Oh no, let us not confuse the issue of an armchair critic.
 
I don't know why. It's happening though... again. I can't tell you why. I don't have a solution. Obviously our preparation is not 100%.
 
it is true that a few have not peaked as well as previously, but it is not easy.

We have all struggled to just keep on improving, have we not?
 
Did you hear Alicia Coutts? She even admitted she wasnt mentally prepared.

This is true. The "greats" have that extra gear/level it seems. They can rise (further) to the occasion than the merely good can.

That's what separates them.
