reasons why people dont compete

I've actually found that competing has blunted my enthusiasm for training in general -- spending 4 months training diligently for a day which ultimately isn't that great makes the whole experience disenfranchising. The forward-focus on competing gives more drive for every workout leading up to it, but the realisation that the day itself really wasn't such a big deal bursts the whole bubble, and I've been finding it's tampered my motivation in general. Having spent a year using extrinsic motivation (competition) to fuel my training has stunted my intrinsic motivation, so a lot of time this year has been spent going through the motions rather than pushing myself like I used to.

That's the first time I've come across this perspective towards competing however its totally understandable. For some the camaraderie that comes from a competing environment provides the same sense of satisfaction that others can find within themselves thru overcoming personal obstacles, beating own expectations and just lifting heavy shit. Maybe its the extrovert introvert thing?

For me, I have thought more about competing since my last post in this thread however I still feel that it's not a make or break deal or the means to an end. I'll be training regardless and any external results I get from that is just icing on top of the cake.

Gerry sounds like a bloke I knew. Taken way to many drugs and always thought people were following him and snooping around his house at night. He pinned all the curtains closed and screwed all the windows shut in his house. Lol.

for bb standing infront of a crowd of mostly men in your underpants, bit weird, for powerlifting the fear of getting beat

Yeah BB is weird like that. Blokes getting excited about watching other nekid blokes pose in front of them. I couldn't do it. Just don't have the personality.

Fear of getting beat?
In powerlifting, there is always going to be someone better than you. That's just sport or life in general. Want to win? Find a small local comp to enter first. Ive done it.

Loool... knew it wouldn't be long before the conspiracy theories started popping up again...

Bro.. did the fulla look like dis?

Maybe dis him?

Be careful... he could be hiding anywhere...
