when is it ok to grunt?

i don't think there is any time for grunting , if its your own gym sure grunt away , but when in a public gym keep your grunting under control

Well if it's a nothing weight I give them the peoples eyebrow, if is is the same or more than I lift its the nod and smile clealy showing my admiration.

So it's not ok for people to be at different stages of their training than you are?

If you're the skinny guy in the gym lifting like a big boy, go for grunt!
If youre the skinny guy in the pink dumbell section....well, you'll prolly end up in the "what you saw at the gym today" thread.....

If you grunt for attention then you're a bit of a wanker but if you're grunting because you're moving genuinely heavy weight then you shouldn't be criticised.

I often wonder if some of those who criticise "grunters" genuinely know what heavy weight is.

Eh to each his own. I make a few noises towards the end of a set, but no grunting. I am oblivious to it. Only happens when i'm pushing heavy stuff.
