I remember this being promoted in the Bodybuilding Mags of the late 80s and early 90s. I wasn't sold on it and only tried it once or twice but I did by the Book, just incase it was some great innovation (back late 80s I thinks). It did fade into obscurity pretty quickly though lol.
The Matrix system had you doing:
1) 5 full reps
2) 5 bottom half reps
3) 5 top half reps
4) 5 full reps
I used to own that book, Might still have it here somewhere.
Your OP is pretty much on point regarding the way it worked, don't remember much else about workout plans but it had nutrition plans, workout plans and all sorts of associated shit in it including meso/ecto/endo descriptions and such.
I remember embarrassing myself by how much I had to drop the weight on the bar to get through the session.
