I think a lot of these minor parties haven't got the advisers or enough knowledgeable members to give a thorough understanding of a broad range of topics, thus they endorse some policies which are short-sighted. Pauline Hanson seemed to suffer from this Big Mick

Sales tax should be at 20%
Income tax should be zero

You make the mistake of thinking that the government should be getting all the revenue that it's currently getting

Even with a 20% GST there would still be a massive shirt fall in Government revenues as Income tax accounts for almost 60% of Gov revenue. How are you going to make that up if you abolish it?
Do the Maths Poni.

Cut government spending for a start.

No offense but that's why you're a PL Coach.

To cut Income Tax from Government revenue you are eliminating by far the biggest slice of the revenue pie.

Massive, Massive cuts to government spending

The government does loads of stuff that is not a legitimate role of government. The government is there to protect life and liberty - just read our constitution and you'll see what is a legitimate role of the government as per our constitution. Why am I paying for government sanctioned art, music and sport?

No offense, but one of my members has a PHD in economics, and his view is to massively reduce (maybe not 100%, but very very heavily reduced) income tax and raise the gst.

In short, he said that a tax that influences people to act differently is generally a bad tax.
With the way our tax system is, a great percentage of the populations income is being taken away, influencing how people earn and spend their money.

GST has shown not to really alter people’s spending that much, especially as they would have more money to spend.

He did say though that it hits the poorer people harder, so keeping a little income tax is a good idea to offset the poor.

yeah, so what.

lots of people have phds in economics, and they often disagree with each other. some support one way, some the other.

no offence.

I also said our income tax is high and our gst is low by oecd standards if you read previous posts. one does not need a phd in economics to have an opinion do they.

but, sales tax alone will never meets aust's policy needs or any other civilised society; that is the stuff of bs and fantasy land. but each to their own.

Sparty, I wasn’t replying to you, clearly.

So..... go eat an apple and relax mate.

Using those 2014 figures, if 57% of all tax revenue comes from income and company taxes, with GST 12.8%, the NEW GST rate if we eliminate individual and company tax would be above 50%, to use the Economic term ceteris paribus.

0ni just likes Liberal Democrats coz they are for legalization of a lot of drugs lol.

That's BS, lots of major Australian parties are in favour of drug law reform and I don't support any of them

taxation is theft

EDIT: actually read the thread, yeah I vote Liberal Democrats too, typical boomer reaction to get outraged at the notion that you don't have a god given right to other people's money tbh.
