Practice, practice, practice. And then practice some more! If you spend just 5 min a day practicing your skip, imagine how good you'll be after a week.
Of course you got to at least know the basics. Make sure the rope length is correct, use the balls of your feet, flip the rope with your wrist not your arms, knees slightly bent to protect your knees, and resist the temptation to jump instead of skip. For starters.
You can measure progress by counting how many reps you do before the rope catches your feet. One extra continuous rep a day (or more) is most excellent.. But forget about the fancy tricks until you can skip continuously for 1 minute.
