I miss the days on here when top quality advice was always offered, and people were put on a solid start.
Now we have people who see the word squat or deadlift in a routine and straight away go, its a powerlifting routine.

Why is starting out on something like max-ot or a simple 5 day split that includes deads, squats, bench a bad thing?
And please show me where someone has suggested a program with deads or squats and said its a powerlifting program....
I agree a beginner can start on something like 5x5 to "build" this base that everyone talks about...but if there focus is bbing then why cant they split the muscle groups up abit more so they can focus on the muscle being trained abit more and include deads on back days, squats on leg days and bench on chest days as your core movements??? - for me I cant see a prob with this...
Ppl talk about "bro-science" but saying squats, bench, dead is all you need with some milk is bro science in itself...
Ok but you don't see many people who squat, bench and dead big numbers who are small. Combine that with low body fat and you have a good physique.

But most bros have no idea what they are doing...if they did then they would be progressing nicely...
You have to understand that there are guys out there doing powerlifting/strength style plans that are getting nowhere coz they dont know anything...you could call these guys "bro-powerlifter" I see them at my gym...dudes trying to do westside style plans, or variations of 5x5 etc etc....and they are the same strength, same size and going no where....
You also see the "bro-bodybuilders" who are gettin nowhere coz they no nothing and dont know what they are doing....
Its all about focusing on your goal and learning how to train for that goal....just because you do a split doesnt mean your not doing things right...you just need to learn what to do to get the results...
Hmmm I understand your point about keeping the place tidy Joel but I don't quite see things as black and white as you do.
Sure I don't know what the powerlifting crowd are likely to get from the bodybuilding section but bodybuilders can get plenty from powerlifting. A strength phase has a lot of advantages to bodybuilding so I'd expect to see plenty of talk about strength training in a real bodybuilding forum.
You mentioned 'starting out' on max-ot, I hope you didn't mean starting out as in beginners???? Max-ot is a program that requires years of lifting experience to do properly in my opinion. There is just too much scope for disaster in there to let a beginner anywhere near it. I've seen experienced competitive bodybuilders make a stuff of trying to train max-ot because they didn't think about it enough first.
Likewise 5x5 is no beginner strength program either. Beginners of either discipline should train in an almost identical fashion because they need to learn technique more than anything else. Once they have solid technique they can specialise if they wish and start more specific training regimens at that point.
People giving advice is just an opinion mate. As far as I'm concerned people are entitled to give their opinions and should be encouraged. Whoever asks the question can deal with the information however they want. There is nearly always more than one right answer to a question, especially in weight training.
what's wrong with starting strength joel? or any other 5x5? for beginners especially. I'd rather take advice from mark rippetoe and bill star than anyone else. The programs work, and that's it.
The extreme effort required for max-ot leads to form breakdowns if you don't know the movement and your body very very well. Handling large weights with poor form is a recipe for disaster. I know it can work, I just think it is way too high risk for beginners.
Yeah, the whole body bias here is pretty strong and I don't agree with it but that's a closed minded problem more than an issue with the forum. Don't forget that most of the pl guys on here seem really young so they don't know that they still have a lot to learn yet. Hence my point about sifting through the advice to select the better stuff.
Why is it so hard to understand:
Goal is bodybuilding = train like a bodybuilder
Goal is strength/powerlifting = train like a strength athlete/powerlifter
