I recently bought a kilo of the new choc-orange flavor and some samples of choc-coconut and choc-cherry. Here are my thoughts.
Price 5/5 - This is a common factor among all. I'm a big fan of the NBS pricing policy of getting bulk prices but with the ability of choosing a variety of flavors.
Mixiablity 3/5 - Another common factor. Giving it 3 cos it did take quite a bit of shaking to dissolve all the powder. But, it's not a huge deal for me.
Smell:
Choc-orange 1/5 - I can't quite describe it but it didn't smell good at all. I couldn't wait to close the bag as the smell was just overpowering. While this is not meant to be a gastronomic experience, inevitably smell does play a part in the end taste. I hoped it would taste better than it smelt.
Choc-coconut 5/5 - Very pleasant smell and a very familiar smell as at the same time. Couldn't quite put my finger on it though.
Choc-cherry 4/5 - Again pleasant smell, not overpowering in any way. Hint of cherry could be picked up.
Taste:
Choc-orange 0/5 - Oh no! This just tasted absolutely horrid. It was neither chocolate nor orange, just a very chemically tasting drink. I'm sorry, but this was the worst tasting protein I've ever tried. But, remember this is just my personal opinion. As I had a kilo of this stuff, I tried it both in milk and water, but it didn't sway my opinion.
Choc-coconut 5/5 - I mixed this in about 125 mls of skim milk and I really did enjoy this flavor. Only on drinking it did I recodnise the smell - the Bounty chocolate bar. It did taste somewhat like Bounty. Wish I had bought one kilo of this flavor!
Choc-cherry 3/5 - Again mixed in 125 mls of skim milk. It was a pleasant taste, very faintly like the Cherry Ripe chocolate bar. But, it didn't blow me away like the choc-coconut, and I don't think I'd make this a staple but I might throw it in every so often for variety.
From the three flavors, I do see myself throwing a bag of the choc-coconut into my next order...but I've got to slowly (very slowly) get through my choc-orange first!!
I've been a fan of the NBS WPI since last year and was quite disappointed with this flavor. Note to self: Try a sample first!!
