so i really wish my wife had let me spend the extra on an ABC bar right now. i ordered a 600kg muscle motion bar from gymandfitness after markos' recommendation. they came back and said they were out of stock but they offered me one of these garage gym bars mentioned by the OP for under $300 delivered to perth instead of the $449 + shipping listed on their site. they promised it was much better and stronger than the MM bar. it arrived yesterday and here is what the knurling is like on each side...

just a slight lack of consistency... ive emailed the dude at gymandfitness so we'll see what comes of it. they didnt package it very well either so the bar slide out of the tube during shipping and its got a couple of dings in one end.

Very very similar story with me. I ordered a cheapie through gymandfitness as I bent my 700lb cheap bar (lasted 3+ years) and a week later they emailed me saying that they have run out of stock so they "up-graded" me to the Garage Gym G2 (like in your pics) so I was pretty happy after reading the specs on said bar. It arrived with only one collar, although I didn't care about this as I have several spare anyway but I was pretty stoked with it the first couple of training sessions, even liked the deep harsh knurling.
On my third day of owning it I was doing OHP with 100kg (bumpers), after completing the lift I dropped it from roughly chest height and it bent the bar... A bar with a rating of 1500lbs bent from dropping 100kg!
I emailed gymandfitness seeking some sort of warranty information and I still haven't received and email back and that was over a week ago.
The bar can still be used for squats and deadlifts but anything with wrist movement in it (bench press, OHP) can not be done safely.

I'm now looking at buying another barbell for the three big lifts and another bar for the Olympic lifts... Any suggestions please. I'm currently looking at ABC for the powerlifting bar after reading this thread and Maxim for the weightlifting bar.

100% get the ABC power bar.

A Pendlay from Iron Edge is an option on the Weightlifting bar too.

They're the only 2 places I would get a bar from (except Minh but Eleiko's are 1500+) unless you're really gonna thrash the crap out of it eg rack pulls.

I've got a $100 "7 foot 20kg olympic barbell" that is only about 18kg and 6'4" lol. Good thing it is getting taken apart to make a thick bar.

Also worth noting is that the bar from GymDirect that is approx $200 is the exact same bar as the 20kg Iron Edge one. So depending on where you live with postage etc will depend on which one is cheaper

Big bloody difference in the knurling hey. How the hell could they cock that up.
Light Weight, bloody great effort OHP 100kg mate.

I have unknown brand 7ft oly bar that I scored from Cashies a while ago, weighs 20kg on the nose, its still hanging in there but would be nice to upgrade sometime.

can vouch for the ABC power bar

owned it 12 months, looks as good as the day it arrived. only difference between now and then is the old plate rust dust on the sleeves and the chalk in the knurling.

money well spent

Man those Texas bars look awesome, I think thats what I'll be getting when I finally save the dough for my own set of weights.

Our crew recently purchased a Texas Power Barbell from Nick@Underground Elite and I can only say good things about this barbell. Ive trained in dozens of gyms in Brisbane which tend to stock the regular ABC barbells, aswell as using Eleiko barbells in PA comps and I have to say the Texas Power Barbell stands out. Very nice quality material, knurling is tough, bearings move super smooth, feels great once you load it up, very well balanced. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's serious about lifting and having a quality barbell.

Ok, I'm ready to lay down some cash to get another new bar (after I destroyed the GG G2 in less than a week). I have my Olympic bar sorted out but now I need another powerlifting bar that will be used in a rack. I don't want to have to buy another bar again for some time so it has to be strong enough to be dropped on occasion or have some sort of warranty on bending.
I do like the look of the Texas power bar and the ABC bar everyone has been recommending but, why has everyone been given different quotes for the ABC? Seems a tad strange to me.
Suggestions, k go.

if your willing to go all out and get eleiko, contact minh from titan Australia.
the Melbourne Uni gym is decked out with eleiko, and you could imagine how much of a beating these bars get. (not stupid shit, but general wear and tear from being in racks, getting dropped when grip fails on deads etc.) so an eleiko is going to survive in ur gym so long as u dont do something stupid to it lol.

i also like the texas power bar, has great knurling.

I'm not willing to spend THAT much on a bar... Other people are satisfied with cheaper bars that are half the price so I'll just go with one of them.
