That is more likely the problem. Every girl I have known that played netball has stuffed knees.
 
It's true, Mick. I was watching a match the other day, the commentator mentioned one of the players had recently had her fifth knee reconstruction.

All of them have stuffed knees, but they're all stuffed in different ways. Thus the need for a good sports physiotherapist.

No way! Netball with it's frequent stopping and starting and jumping could not have hurt her knees. Get her to a new physio and GP Markos, she obviously needs more astute care and a less lazy physician.

So....... This cert III has a fair bit of theroy to get through lol.
Ive got to fill out another 70+ pages of answers by saturday morning. Ill be chucking a sickie on friday to finish it all lol.
Currently taking me 1 hour per 3 pages because you have to read heaps out of a text book to answer the questions.

GRRR..........

Lock sounds pretty good and a lifter too, too bad she is sticking with the other one.

Sticky, make sure you answer the exercise prescription and resistance training stuff the way they want it even if you know it is stupid.
 
Hey guys, quick Q.... Dont know where else to put it.

Doing the energy section.

Question states:
What are the waste products from the creatine phosphate system and the lactic acid system
Now Im sure that the creatine has no waste, so the answer is, well, none.
As far as I can understand the lactic acid sytems end product is, well lactic acid. But thats not a waste is it, becuase it can then be converted back to pyruvic acid > aerobic energy system > ATP > more energy? So does it also have no waste???
 
Carbon dioxide and water are the ultimate waste products of all the energy cycles in the human body. We breathe in oxygen, consume carbon and hydrogen in the form of carbohydrates, these are broken up for energy, thus CHO + O2 --> CO2 + H2O. This is reversed for plants, which is why we have to eat them.

However, something can be a "waste product" of one cycle even if it feeds into another cycle. So maybe they do want to hear "lactate" or whatever.

Seems like one of those questions where the questioner doesn't really understand the whole process very well, so the question comes out a bit odd and vague.

Doesn't your textbook cover it?

Yeh, Ive read the textbook about 8986067 times. All I keep coming back up with is what Ive written above.

The waste of the lactic acid system is lactic acid. But this "waste" is re-used, so is it a waste?

If you have it, im reading "the essential guide to fitness" page 55.

Seems like a trick question to me :D.
 
A trick question, or one when there the questioner is muddled, as I said earlier.

Don't worry, it's TAFE, if you get it wrong they just ask you again and again until you get it right, the system exists to weed out the dumb and lazy ones, not the merely dumb ones :p

Went to an interview for a third job yesterday. Hawthorn is giving me fixed hours, I can PT whenever I want in or outside those hours, I've a client outside them.

Box Hill is giving me no fixed hours. Yesterday they rang up, "someone's sick for two weeks, can you cover these 9 shifts over the next fortnight."
"I'll check. Hmmm, I can cover 8 of them."
"Okay we'll give you 3 of them."
?????!
A wee bit hard to pay the bills with 3x 4hr shifts in a fortnight, and get around lots of gym-goers to score clients. On the other hand they're putting me in their newsletter as a new PT they've hired. So obviously willing to try to promote...

Anyway, I go for the third one, and see how it all falls out over the next month or three.

I think I need a bigger diary. Between 2-3 jobs and private clients and gym clients but outside gym hours it could get confusing. Problem is all the big diaries have appointments starting at 0800 and finishing at 1700, not really right for a trainer or coach... :)
 
Sounds like a stupid question to me. If I was marking you and you gave me that answer I would give you full marks (but I bet it is a multi choice question) as it shows you understand the pathways and are smart enough to understand that lactate can be reused. Basically I think they want you to answer lactic acid but if you can get away with your answer I would go for that. Lactate is also metabolised in the liver to create glycogen and also converted to amino acids if you wanted to know more about it.

Also the creatine phosphate system does have 'waste' like pyruvate. Creatine phosphate breaks down to supply phosphate for the reformation of ADP to ATP and then creatine is left over which needs to bind to phosphate again later one. So it is a similar (but less complex) cycle.

Dumb question but answer it the way they expect you to or show enough information if you can (non multi choice) to show you understand the pathways as that is the reason for the question.
 
You could always make your own diary kyle, a bit of work on word, some printing a quick binding and bam a diary to suit you. Or you could move into the electronic age like the rest of us :D
 
Electronic? At this moment I'm doing a spreadsheet. There's one page with my hours to calculate pay, and another just as a timetable so I know where I have to be when. For example, here is my current timetable for next week. Green is one gym, blue is the other, red is private clients. Things are settling down a bit now, the past two weeks with shadow shifts and regular or fill in shifts at two gyms, plus 5 private clients (I had 6 but scared one away), it's been a bit crazy.

I've yet to fill in domestic, social and volunteer stuff.

I generally prefer stuff in writing, though.

I use my iPhone calendar always with me and easy to use and follow has alarms etc etc. You are still stuck in the 90's at least you have moved on from the 70's though.

I only need to out in my uni times and rooms/campus for remembering and my work days at the rehab centre. When I start training people (when I finally have some time) at the end of the year my iPhone and computer calendar will come in handy.

Get with the times Kyle!!!

Its a phone, it doesn't need to be compatible with anything besides iTunes :D (Personally I am a PC guy but the iPhone is so much nicer to use than other touch screen phones out at the moment.)
 
Getting more on topic, I was talking to a guy in my class about his Personal Training at Fenix or something like that. He says the rent is 240 p/w for a PT. He had to quit as he had no chance of making enough money whilst studying 4 nights a week at uni. Then we were talking about how you can rent a warehouse for that or less (about 200m2 way more than you would need) in the outer suburbs of Melbourne (west).
 
If you're not confident of making $240 a week at an established equipped club with clients fed to you and all the marketing and paperwork done for you, then I don't think you'll have much luck in a warehouse by yourself in the outer western suburbs.

Warehouse rental in my area is more expensive than that, for example we'd be looking at $2/sq m weekly, so around $400pw for 200m2, which is about what you'd want for your own gym if you could - though Markos has shown us you can do a lot with much, much less.

But you'd also have to pay for council permits, lighting, and possibly heating or cooling, for water, then you'd have to find clients rather than just jumping on the ones who come through the gym, then there's GST to sort out and receipts to keep and all that.

Starting your own business is a big headache. It'd be a bigger headache still if you didn't treat it as a full-time job, but were busy with some other job or study. This headache will be reduced if you work with someone else to do it, whether it be a business partner, Fenix, Fitness First or whatever.

It's not a path I'd recommend to most people starting in any profession. Get employed by someone else, let them take the risks while you learn, once you have a really good grasp of the whole business, it might then be time to go out on your own.

They had 17 PT's on the floor competing for members dollars, and thats a small FF

My friend, one of the most, if not the most knowledgable PT's I know nearly went broke. He lasted 9 months, they kept docking his account of $240pw for the next 3 months while he worked elsewhere.

He is now in the army.

This guy had it all, shredded, awesome shape, knowledge, triple bodyweight deadlift 240kg @ 79kg.

In the states, warehouses are the way to go, have been for a couple of years.

As Kyle stated, its not easy, but its MUCH better than renting space AND competing at Fenix. Same rent, no competition.

Kyle, if you were being charged rent currently, how long do you think you would last? You also need to sign a 12 month lease at Fenix.

Its a scam, one that is best avoided. For every PT making money, there is 100 going broke, for various reasons.

Your doing it the right way Kyle, the monetary rewards will initially be lower, but at least you wont go broke starting out.
