Grip Strength

Why is this even an argument?
If you're having trouble holding onto a bar, you need to hypertrophy your hand and forearm muscles and increase the total weekly volume of holding a bar in your hands to further develop the skill. If you're not, then don't bother

This is the same with ANY movement
 
I find this statement odd, as I find these two fingers are the only ones that don't really get trained by the grippers, it's more the middle finger and pointer that get trained.

Also keep in mind that your fingers do not have any muscles as such only tendons and connective tissue, the muscles are in your forearms, and training your grip will strengthen your forearms as well as the tendons and connective tissue if done right.

I must be doing it wrong then, as I hardly engage those two fingers when I use the grippers.

I actually make a point of using the trainer gripper and and taking the pointer and middle finger out of action and just use the pinky and ring finger to close the gripper.
 
I think their main flaw is that they mainly develop the pinky and ring finger.

We had them at work so I got ridiculously strong at them as a joke. Nearly got the 3. Nearly dropped 180kg the first time I deadlifted it and I did drop 200kg. I've heard from a few other 600lb+ deadlifters they can't close the 2.

Good for beers and screwing around with mates.

about 170kg is approaching my deadlift limit for double overhand grip and I have closed the 1.5 but not the 2. I consider my grip to be pretty poor. I'd argue it's improved most from deadlifting itself though so far.
 
Good grip builders

2" axle, doh deads or put it in the rack and do some times hangs.
Pinch grip walks, use bumpers or a couple of 10kg kg plates and "pinch" the weight in your hands for as long as possible.
Kettle Bell Bottom holds, turn a kettlebell upside down and grip the round bottom of the bell
Farmers walks
These are just a few simple ways of increasing grip strength.

CoC grippers are for crushing grip, doesnt involve the thumb. Thumb strength is very importat if you want to hold onto the bar!

That is pretty impressive! The bar is starting to slip at 125 for me. I'm about to start using mixed grip to see if it will make a difference. Otherwise the straps are coming out!
 
I can DoH 150kg and mixed grip 215kg. I haven't wasted a single minute training grip strength in my life.

Unless you're failing on some sort of specific strongman event I think it's a waste of time.
 
As I said earlier, being able to hold onto just 200kg (or 215kg) is not a valid argument against grip work

More just a question to your reply to Oni's comment that holding onto a 200kg bar isn't a valid argument against grip work. I was assuming from your comment you agree with that?

Unless your grip is limiting something I don't really see the need for extra grip training.

Why?
 

Deadlifts, chins and any rowing movements give you a grip workout anyway. Unless you need more grip strength for your sport like strongman i don't see the point in wasting more time on specific grip training.

Just my opinion.
 
If you can hold onto any weight you can lift what's the need for any extra grip work?

That would be like saying if you can do your daily tasks, ie get up, brush your teeth and get to work etc etc then what would be the point in training with weights, as you can already do what ever you need to do.

Your grip can always be stronger, you can always be faster, you can always add more weight, you can always be richer, woman's breasts can always be bigger etc etc
