Who's the best ever natural bodybuilder?

In all probability, strength athletes today are stronger than in past, although i cant realy speak for powerlifting given years of suits and now raw lifting returning largely to older days.

Beside WSM and their feats, now a wr log lift of 220kg alone, throwers and weightlifting records peaked in late 1980s and early 1990s before much more stringent testing came into play.

Taking drug testing into account, there are indeed plenty of strength freaks around.

Most of the 50's guys weren't naturals. Not taking anything away from them I think they looked phenomenal, much better then todays mass monsters.

If you really want to see what is achievable without gear look up eugene sandow.

Sandow was indeed impressive.

Dont know which sport embraced PEDS first in an extensive way, but in aths use takes off considerably in 50s and 60s. Dianabol (50s) designed basically as a PED.

Our strength athletes are weaker? Hwat?

He's not far wrong here.

The nazis where experimenting with steroids, they made there way into America via bill pearl in the early 50's, they where using miniscual amounts.

Reg park was the planets alpha male for twenty years, know one looked like him then.

All things being equal there has been no real advancement in strength until the development of the adjustable barbell. bill pearl and Sergio who had been training brutally hard and using steroids, later adding nautilus to their brutal high rep abbreviated routines, made astonishing gains in strength, that changed the way people trained to this day, although not as hard as they did, with the introduction of split routines, a vehicle to sell more weider magazines.

Sandow was a physical culturalist, not a bodybiulder, his aim was building the body.
