Yo! Mike here, from Perth.

Stumbled across the Forum researching barbells. I'm a big fan of functional fitness rather than fitness for fitness sake. The majority of my workouts up until this point have been bodyweight based, but now I'm starting to get serious.

I'm also a ginormous Star Wars nerd.

Welcome bud. :)

Greetings all.

25 years old, max deadlift is 175 kg, squat: 155 kg, bench: 105 kg, OHP: 72.5 kg

Evidently needs work, that's why I'm here!

- Name: 'BigDownUnder'
- Age: 39
- Gender: Male mostly
- Location: Regional WA
- Training experience (if you have any that is): Off / on for a period of about 20 years
- Any Interests: AFL & Kyokushin karate (competed in Japan for several years)

Do you have any goals in mind?
Primary goal = strength
Secondary goal = hypertrophy / body composition

I have trained under quite a few well known online trainers, such as:
Dante aka Doggcrapp;
Layne Norton;
Iron Addict;
Silverback;
John Meadows aka Mountain Dog;
Chris Janusz aka Swolecat.

I have been involved on a few forums before - mainly US based.

Also been a moderator at Intense Muscle.

Keen to get involved in an Aussie forum.

Cheers

Sup.

I hang out on another more general forum and they got me into lifting, but I figure if I want some more support/info a specific place would be a good idea :) so here I am.

About me:
- Name: Tom
- Age: 25
- Gender: M
- Location: Stanmore, Sydney
- Sporting background: Ex-gymnast (Year 5 through to two years after Year 12 when I was coaching, so about 8 years). Managed to get to National level for Men's Artistic (open, achieved in year 12), placing second on parallel bars and helping the team come first. Favourite apparatus: Pommel Hourse ;)
- Interests: Reading, writing, editing, indexing (yeah, that bit at the back of the book), philosophy, the environment, good wine, cooking, the internet and (less and less) videogames.

I haven't done exercise in any meaningful sense since my gymnast days, and slowly my body lost it's shape. That said I've always had a super-quick metabolism so it's not like I'm chubby or anything. Anyway, my main goal is strength building and honing my body to simply become better. The routine and goals of weightlifting remind me of gymnastics and it feels great to get back to exercising. I started back in July but broke my foot in September. Having moved to Sydney from Melbourne I have just restarted (doing SS, I'll make a log thread) and am keen to really attack my training.

Anyway, I think that's it, I look forward to learning and becoming part of the community.

I would like to welcome you to the Ausbb- Australian BodyBuilding Forums, Good to have you all on board. Don't forget to start your own Training Diary. Your Training Diary will help you stay motivated and keep track of your progress. When you train alone sometimes it is hard to get help, guidance, inspirtation and motivation which is where the Ausbb forums and the Ausbb Training Diaries will help you with finding others with similar stats and allow you to interact with each other.

Hi there

Name: Michael
Age: 52
Gender: Male
Location: Canberra
Training experience: 35 years on and off.

Have two teenage sons who have started lifting in the last few years which has renewed my interest. Have dusted off my old weights and benches, etc and added to it with some purchases off ebay over the last 2 years in setting up a home gym for all of us (will post some pics on the home gym thread later).

Am keen to learn from the guys on the forum who are still lifting past 50. What I've learnt at my age is that lean is better and proper form is better than lifting heavy. I am careful to minimise the risk of injury - it takes too long to recover from an injury these days and too much down time!

Welcome @Old Mick; to Ausbb - Australian Bodybuilding good to have you on board
how old are your sons? perhaps drop the hint to them about Ausbb

Name: Luke

Age: 36

Gender: Male

Current Weight: 97 kgs (Was 103)

Height: 180 cms

Location: Camden NSW (Sydney)

Training experience (if you have any that is): Off and on, nothing serious. Have been seeing an Ex Physiologist for the past 3 months to build a base level of strength (very basic)

I joined Ausbb to get advice regarding home equipment and workouts, i want to get a power rack and do a starting strength/stronglifts style of workout at home. I'm borderline with having CFS and need to try to workout regularly to help with energy levels.

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Current Weight: Between 95kg and 99kg

Height: 183 cms

Location: Adelaide

Training experience: Have done bits and pieces over the years, bit never been able to stick to it due to injuries (not lifting related).

Reason for joining/goals: Want to investigate options for training techniques. Looking to increase strength, but that's more the means to an end for me. Since I was 18 I've had 7 shoulder reconstructions (hence the nickname "Slingy") and the specialist reckon the next major shoulder injury will require a joint replacement.
I'm too young to let my arthritis cripple me and I really want to avoid a joint replacement for as long as possible.
I have done rehab through a physio to help my shoulders, but really my joints are more stable and less painful when I really build up the strength. There's only so much you can do with those rubber bands.
I am not just focussing on shoulder strengthening.. that would be weird, plus obviously there are many other benefits to working the whole body.

I would like to meet member "PTC"s novice targets before my 32nd birthday (November). 100kg bench, 140kg squat, 180kg deadlift.
Planning on three workouts a week with my bro-in-law. Only problem is that he has a strange aversion to deadlifts and squats, so I let him do his own thing and have given up trying to get him to see the light.
