Deadlifts

Yep, but considering that there are very consistent correlations between increased volume and frequency of lifts and increased strength gains then it follows that increasing your work capacity as soon as possible will allow for faster gains.

I'm not saying to jump straight to 4x a week heavy pulling but even performing a heavy/light split or a different variation, should be beneficial.

Coolio.

240 at under 70 is very good as a natty lifter. Bazz just has a weird obsession with following 0ni around to attack or denigrate him.

I like how the lifts Onis clams he he achieved naturally seem to vary depending on the point he is trying to make. Lol.

I just had a lol at the genetically gifted comment. He seems to be dishing that out pretty easily. Lol.

I had the opportunity to sit down with "the" deadlift coach from Finland and talk for around 2 hours.

Whilst Ben is correct in regards to frequency, they run a lot of westside inspired workouts.

Back in the day, it was all very heavy, low volume workouts.

I based a portion of my training around this meeting, and I think it has been very productive fir myself and our members :)

Being a lanky bastard, I watched Sticky's videos when I first started deadlifting...and have more or less copied his setup.
I started in early 2012, and currently have a 1rm of 275kg.

I worked mostly 5's and triples. Every rep, dead stop. Relatively low volume. I started making more progress by not repping out/going to failure on my deads.

Westside sucks. You get better at deadlifting by deadlifting. The Mag/Ort cycle is a great deadlift specialisation cycle, and the 2-3x a week deadlift work in sheiko works well too. I had great results using both to build and rebuild my deadlift respectively.

….. and this. Just do a google search for a Magnusson Ortmayer excel file. I had great results with it. Now doing 5/3/1 which is about the same, at least in principle. If you get stuck, just PM me an email address and I will forward one on.

Crikey, where did you get the idea that you needed to go to failure deadlifting?

Thanks K I'll have a change up after the meet .I sorta program my own way however i get the %s wrong and probably don't progress as fast as I could.
Having better structure would help heaps.

I try to front squat as often as I can handle, sometimes up to 3 times a week as I believe it has good carryover to my form in the squat and it sorta mimics the deadlift however I stall really easily.
My thinking is that i struggle with recovery deadlifting often however i suppose its a case of manning up and actually training the comp lift rather than showing up on the day and hoping it falls into place.lol.

Interesting to hear. I'd mainly read about their high frequency programming.

Short torso and long arms is the perfect deadlifting genetics
I am truly blessed

I'm curious..are u a fast runner as well?

Yeah
I think people with different body proportions should program lifts differently
Why would I follow the same bench routine as say, Sarychev, when I am built nothing like him. He has one heavy workout every 10 days, he handles huge weights and is very large. What works for me is going pretty heavy, very frequently because of mainly the size difference. Assistance will be different because proportionally my forearms are long to my clavicles so benching technique will be different such that a loading scheme would affect both of us completely differently

Take note of what the shitty deadlifts did to bring up their deadlift. Short armed, long torso fellas. The deadlift will be much more focused on the anterior rather than the posterior with these individuals, so you should train it different. To start you'll be using fairly low hips and a conventional stance. So lots of paused high bar and front squatting will be your friend. Rack pulls will take a lot of the strain off the lower back. Then lots of weighted ab work

It's one thing to look at what guys could do when they are good genetically lol. Sticky deadlifted 120kg and I deadlifted 100kg the first time we entered a gym and we both looked like we were fresh out of the holocaust. I weighed 50kg, dunno about Sticky probably not far off of 70kg. We were built to deadlift so deadlifting worked great. Now ask about our squats and bench and all the shenanigans we did to bring them up lol. Built to squat and suddenly loading up the bar seems to do the trick just nicely at first.

Thanks i actually do that sort of assistance but more based on how it feels rather than any scientific analysis lol,I'm glad I've sorta got it right to a certain extent.
Fully agree on finding ways that individualise and maximise.but I would qualify that statement to also say that some of us either train too hard or too soft.I'm in both categories lol so sometimes a cookie cutter routine is good just to realign.
I am over 93 at the moment so the reason why I asked about speed,is that I'm wondering whether to introduce plyo stuff like standing jumps and short sprints to eke some more gains.I have around 6 weeks.

I'm genetically gifted at the deadlift so anything works for me
But I seem to get the best gains doing a heavy and light workout each week

One of my favourite workouts was picking a weight, 80-90% of 1RM and seeing how many reps I could get in 30 minutes. If I could get 30 then I'd add 5kg
Oops, had to delete what I wrote. I misread your numbers. I thought you said 30 reps of 90% of 1RM,....I missed the "in 30 minutes" bit. So what exactly does it mean when you say you're genetically gifted in the deadlift Oni? I mean is your deadlift weight way beyond what it should be, or is it way beyond the other two lifts, namely the back squats and bench press? I was never super strong off the floor, I think the max I ever clean pulled for few reps was 175kg (when my best C&J was at 160kg). So I'm curious about the strength of your deadlift. Thank you.

Fadi.

The question should be is there anything Oni isn't awesome at. Or thinks he isnt awesome at.
its ok to be confident mate,I'd even venture to suggest that having confidence can be the difference between getting out of the hole and getting stapled.
I don't mind that sort of mentality in a powerlifting setting.
I dont quite approach it the same way however got to appreciate the characters.
Maybe you just follow a little toooo closely looking for weakness lol.
Anyhoo nice chatting..cya.
