Squat depth

A bloke whos been involved in Weight training for quite some time. I know you guys on here are very keen on depth, yet maybe it is bad for the knees ?

When you squat properly no its not bad for the knees. Thats such a misconception. The problem is these people dont know how to squat properly to keep the weight off the knees.

There is some merit in that.

If a bloke squats ATG to the point where his ham's are pressing against his calves the axis actually moves from the knee, down roughly 250mm to somewhere usually the high point of the calve

I've been involved in weight training for quite some time...

Pulling up short of full depth is actually worse for your knees due to the shear force the knee undergoes. At full depth your posterior chain slows you down. Depth is not bad for the knees, stupidity and ignorance is.

extending on from this, when your hips drop below your knees the weight is bared by the hips

Another reason why the leg press can be fatal, and also the smith.

Just out of curiosity bloke is your problem an imbalance or just general weakness. What is your ratio front to back squat? What sort of weight are you squatting?

To quote wendler unless your quads are hanging over your knees like nut sacks you are not quad dominant.

Wendler is overrated
