No they don't usually live very long Fluff but we were very lucky with ours, poor guy lived till he was 14!
You're right, they don't like the hot weather so Queensland would be torture for them.
We had ours when we lived in the Adelaide hills on an acre of land, Newfoundlands really are gentle giants and you can imagine the size of the land mines he used to leave.
Here's my mutt. Red cattle x greyhound, turned 13 this year and as fit as a fiddle. He's my best mate and goes most places with me. He's also the "community dog", where I live I'm surrounded my old people and he wanders around and visits them.

Haha Scott introduced Coan to chickens yesterday, apparently was not the best result.. We're planning on having chickens with our two pups, so hopefully we can train them to be fine with them!
