Does lifting weights before 16 stunt your gowth or damage your joints?

Please supply your information with the backup behind it. I'm currently in an agrument at work and need your help. lol

I'm pretty sure estrogen is the culprit for lack of height, women are generally shorter than men. I read this a while ago. I don't think weight training fuses the growth plates and stunts height
 
I work with alot of kids at my gym, and as long as the routine is rounded , varied and mostly of compound moves there benifical.. Wot some articals have said is it bad too do certain movements , movements we dont do at are gym even with adults .

Pec deck, is one excample that can be damaging to the shoulders.
