while i may not be able to get a gum here (which is fine by me) i probably would in the states. which is an example of why our gun laws work. when people snap here its harder for them to get a gun to inflict pain on the world, end of
 

If somebody lives in bondi beach and is a member of a shooting sports club or likes to go on hunting expeditions, why shouldn't they be able to own a firearm, provided they are eligible.

An "assault rifle" is a term misused in the media to describe any tactical looking firearm. An assault rifle sensuo-stricto is a rifle of intermediate calibre that has select fire capability (can fire on automatic fire). It has never been possible for civilians to own an assault rifle in Australia, and even in the US it would be very difficult for most civilians to own an assault rifle.

The term "weapon" also irks most law abiding firearms owners. It's only a weapon if it is used against anther human. None of us in. Australia own firearms for that express purpose.

A semi auto rifle is fundamentally not that much different to a manually operated repeating rifle. The same principles of marksmanship apply. Firing rapidly and carelessly will only result in fewer rounds on-target and is an unsafe practice. Responsible firearms owners understand the rules of firearms safety and having a semi auto will not make them any less safe than having a manual rifle.

. So why should we be allowed to own semi auto rifles - well why not? It's certainly more convenient in some hunting scenarios and there are some very exciting international shooting sports that involve the use of semi automatic sporting rifles.
 


think the big picture your missinmg is that not everyone is a responsible owner. there for if some have to go without to make sure idiots dont have them (which applies to many other things in life) then so be it

Of all the mass shootings in the US since 1950, only two were in places that were not designated "gun free zones".

Cowardice is a character trait common to many of the mass murderers.

Just because you live in the city does not mean you don't frequent the country (I used to when I lived in Sydney).

I have owned firearms since I was 18 years old, I started shooting when I was 13, competitively at 15 for a short time before losing interest in competition, probably because I was not that good..lol.

You can take self defence out as a reason for ownership in Australia, as it would not be a reason for giving someone a license to own guns.

What most antigun persons seem to miss is that shooting is a legitimate legal past time/sport, so is hunting, people often confuse legal hunting and poaching I see it in the media all the time. Nothing wrong with legal hunting, it's in our DNA. We need people to shoot and control pests, professional shooters out my way can shoot 2-300 wild pigs in a few hours on a single property using a helicopter and semiautomatic rifles. Some recreational hunters come out here and will legally cull 20, 30, 40 etc wild pigs in a day or week depending on their skill.

I can be out at night or early hours driving to work and see 50 wild pigs in a single night.

We have people from Victoria that drive up here just to hunt wild pigs, they spend money and save the farmers thousands.

I have gotten away from the hunting side myself, but still like my guns and own a nice long range tactical rifle that I play with, even make my own custom ammunition.

This will take out a 100kg wild bore at 500 meters with a single shot:

So how do answer the part on the application about suffering from any illness?

You freely admit to use of anti psychotics - do you write that on your application form?
 


no issue with hunting really. as said my issues is more the type of weapons and the reason for owning them, and this is mainly directed at the states not hete. aus has good gun laws

See you are willing to make compromises with other peoples past time just because it is not yours.

Let's say because some people are idiots driving V8 SS Commodores lets stop everyone from owning them, I mean no one needs a V8, or how about statistics show that white cars are most likely to be involved in a fatal car accident, so let's ban white cars to reduce motor vehicle accidents.

Or some gym goers use steroids and then go on roid rage, so lets ban weight training etc etc.

I never been interested in surfing, yet surfers get attacked by sharks and drown using up emergency services so lets ban surfing.

We could go on for ever, just because you have no interest in shooting sports does not give you the right to encroach on other persons interests.

well first of all having a mental illness alone doesnt bar you from entry. and they have no way of knowing. met with enough immigration lawyers last year in the states to make your opinion pretty worthless to me

ban steroids

kill sharks that attack surfers and close beaches when sharks are spotted.

see a patern here?

Would have to agree with most parts of Aussie gun laws.

US have their own culture, and we can not impose our laws on them.

They have to work out what works for them.

Personally I don't think the guns are the actual issue, mental health, depression, drugs etc is where it all goes wrong.

We need to address the issues that cause the problems, as people will always be able to get guns no matter what.

Im guessing the "45 grain" is the amount of propellant - those look like .30 calibre holes and a 45 grain bullet would be awfully small at that calibre!

I use 45.1gr of 2206 under a 150gr soft point (not boat tail) for the 308. I also have a subsonic 308 load that uses AS30 and is good for vermin around the house. It has a mortar like trajectory and requires a few turns on the elevation dial but it hits like a truck.

You hit the nail on the head.

Guns are already controlled by gun laws, safe storage restrictions, strict rules on the use, possession, ownership, transport etc of guns. Just because some criminal element live and act outside those rules should not affect those people operating within the rules.

So the person speeding gets the ticket or loses his license not the person doing the right thing. Imagine the uproar if some criminal gets in a police chase in a car identical to yours and kills a family of 5 and your car gets confiscated by the government as part of a knee jerk reaction??

This is exactly what happened in Australia under the Howard Government.

They have no way of knowing if you lie on your application. Isn't that a felony?

if you have a mental illness that requires the use of the kinds of mess that you admit to using, then if you are a law abiding citizen, you must admit to it on the application. You cannot enter the US without a waiver.

They will come back to you and ask if you want to seek a waiver.

We have now established that you have either lied during the visa application process or are spruiking all kinds of bullshit about being on psych meds (which would make you a pretty poor example of a human being) or you haven't really traveled much at all, it's all a big wet online fantasy.
 

45 grain of AR2208 168 grain Nolser Ballistic tip bullets, 45 grain seems to work best, with Winchester cases.

And yes it is a 308, Remigton 700 SPS Tactical, had some bedding work done as well.

What is the details on the subsonic load?? PM if you want to avoid off topic discussion.

see the problem you have is you dont know dick about my condition, so trying to offer legal opinions based on a few vague forum posts is pretty retarded. and you dont need a waiver for just having a mental illness.
