improving wrist/shoulder flexibility for squatting

A towel or band allows you to shorten to get through a ROM where a broomstick won't. You don't get the same effect as a stick.
 
That's just the point though, its more forgiving if you have a less flexible joint. Going straight to a stick would likely cause injury I reckon. Especially as the flexibility isn't there. Start with a towel, maybe move to a stick eventually. Personally, I prefer the feel of the towel.
 
If you can't comfortable start at the far ends of a broomstick you have issues that dislocates can't solve and need more remedial work... towel/band + a lot more other work around your shoulder girdle. Guys on here, bar injuries, should not be that bad. If you are though then start simple but make sure you progress.
 
after two and a half months (3.5?), i can finally do shoulder dislocations with broomstick and get the bar all the way around! frk it's taken some time and effort :p

stretching pecs made a big difference to be able to get scaps to sit flat enough to get the stick all the way over, as well as T-spine mobility...
