I'm Over Squats

I thnk 99% of the too injured to squat brigade is just people who give up on them cause they are hard work and it is a convenient excuse. People who are genuinely too banged to squat (like bazza) are far and few between.

sometimes you aren't allowed to squat until an injury gets to a certain point in recovery.
I was doing front squats to a highish box for a couple of months while my hip ligament injury healed. Took ages.
STill have hip tightness but the injury is gone and I've been squatting right through it. Uncomfortable as all hell, but I persist knowing it'll get better.

But for those first couple of months, I would only have done more damage.
In those instances, you need to find alternatives that help you work around it.

Why's that mate?
Im about to start back into bodyweight only training, now 6 weeks post-op. Lunges are on my 'to-do' list, with an aim to do them with weights when i can...

These lunges are great as the isolateral movement doesn't place a huge load on the spine while being able to create a lot of movement around the hip, but as you increase the weight or resistance, the need to balance yourself is contraindicated.

The hammer lunge machine is a beauty as you can create quite a load, and there is no risk of losing balance when fatigued, where all the action is.

Too true.

Why don't People squat because ?
it makes them feel very uncomfortable, every muscle under the bar is working, which really hurts.

Everyone's threshold of pain is different.

Amen to that brother...

Have only been squatting since I joined the ausbb crew.... I joined ausbb in August 2011 and quickly learned what squats were and their importance... Then started squatting Sep/Oct 2011 using 5x5...Has been an absolute slog but I can honestly say it has been totally worth it...

Hardest thing was when I first started... Shithouse mobility and I couldn't squat to save my life... So had to start with an empty bar... Meanwhile I could bench
120kg... Had to swallow my pride and undo the many years of failing to squat... 120kg dude squatting a 20kg bar in public gym equals not cool...

Has been a mission with numerous setbacks...However I fricken love what squats have done for me...

Had dodgy knee that required heavy strapping when I snow boarded for nearly 5 years...

This knee would regularly cause me grief getting in and out of my car...

Had lower back issue that would flare up from time to time... Mowing lawns...Surfing... There was always an imbalance between my upper body and lower body...

All of these issues are no longer problems for me... At the age of 36 squats repaired my issues... Can't believe I wasted so many years with them...

Na I'm just soft like all the others that make excuses for not being able to squat.

Calm down big fella he obviously meant you would be in the other 1%

Forget your meds?

Squat is king of lifts cause of the carryover to other bodyparts. All the crunches in the world won't work your abs like a set of squats in the 80-90% range.

Let's not get carried away with the virtues of squats brick
