How much can you chin?

dunno. I always figured chins had more bicep involvement whilst pull ups had more lat.

Lat work is going to have more carryover to the bench press.

Different hand grips would target different areas of the back, so you could do:

2 sets of wide grip pullups
two of close grip, and
2 sets of chins..

then do it with progressively heavier weight..

I am still struggleing to get 15 wg at bodyweight..

How should I progressively add weight to chins over time? wear a belt and dangle 5kg weight, do 3 sets of 5, next time add another 5kg etc?

Correct, although I personally think starting with 5kg is too small an increase from bodyweight to make that much difference. I'd go 10kg, then 15 and eventually 20. But if 5kg feels better go for it.

I also wouldn't add any weight until you can do around 12-15 reps at bodyweight. Once the body gets used to it and it gets too easy, add weight to keep taxing the muscles.

I found 10kg to be a massive increase, went from 12 at bw to maybe 4 with 10kg added..

I would work towards 10 at bw, then add 5kg and again work up to 10 reps, add another 5 and work up to 10reps etc..same with dips
But this is because i like to keep the volume up, dropping from 10 to 4 I find pointless, dropping from 10 to 6/7 feels like a better progression. but everyone can add weight at different intervals, for me a smaller more often increase is working better.

Last week Kelly chinned with 36kg. He had a 30kg vest on and another 6kg vest on top of it.

I have vests weighing 6-10-20-30kg now. Its much harder with a vest than a weight hanging due to the positioning of the weight.

Max did a triple with 30kg, Jesse did 1 with 30kg. It was actually 50% extra bw for Jesse.

These are wide grip palms away chins.

I went indoor climbing saturday morning.... climbed up with a 10kg vest got to the top of roof and did 8 chins palm facing out was harder then hanging weight but I was a bit fatigued from the climb....

My best was pull ups bw+45kg x4 Bw + 20kg x 12
I do 20+ chins most morning when i wake up under the pegola and bw +10kg x 12 x 3 sets

I could add more weight now I think since ive gotten lighter.. might have to try this week and report back .

Ive found if my diet and training is the same before my sumemr cut
- i lift more during summer after ive done a cut of excess bodyfat (around 10kgs more)

I can chin my whole body weight at least 30 times, could probably go more. Never tried it with weights.

What's your rep cadence?
Where are your upper arms at the top of the movement in relation to your torso?
How wide are your hands in relation to your shoulder width?

strength training and eat like my life depends on it. worry about the rest later.

i'm a wiry ecto at 5'6 low 60kg's. been a twig my whole life. i've tried weights a few times but always half hearted. 3 weeks ago i had 1 proper intense workout out of the blue. god damn if it didn't make me feel like i was 6 foot and built to wear it. every time i workout now, if i don't push myself harder than the last session i feel like i've lost. i can't even think about comparing my numbers to some of the guys on here. but against myself, i'm winning every time i try. feels good. want more. :)

*sigh*

zero :(
Don't worry mate, you're not the only weak bastard here. This lazy old man can only do about 6-8 body weight chins. But, come to think of it, I can probably only do the same for bench at the moment too. Weak, so weak...

Cheers,
Mike

Hey mate youve got the right attitude, your only competing with yourself and the bar, stuff what everyone else is doing and remember, food, food and more food, if it once walked on or grew in the ground, EAT IT!. Wiry ecto at 5;6, I used to be 60kg at 5'10:(

Oh no, i cant do 30 reps non-stop. i do it in sets. Ah, not to sure about rep cadence, but my upper arms are basically in line with my torso, my hands are about shoulder width and my grip is reversed.
