For me I look at work satisfaction coming down to 3 areas, how much you like:
- the people you work with (especially direct boss)
- the process of creating whatever it is you get paid to create (even if it's a sale)
- the amount you get paid
When people pay you to do something it's usually something they don't want to do, can't do, or don't have the time to do. I see kids getting very idealistic about what they eventually want to do for work, forgetting that for the most part they'll be providing a service of some kind. A better question to determine what you should do for a living is often 'what are you good at?'. That's not to say your job will be hell... far from it.
Or something. I work as an engineer, I did it cause I was good at maths, and some days I can tick off all 3 of the above.
