A 42-year-old Queenslander is the sole Australian representative in the World Arm Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan.
Sam Saffuri, from Hervey Bay, south of Bundaberg in the state's south, will contest the championships this weekend.
More than 50 countries are competing but Mr Saffuri is Australia's only representative.
He believes the sport will eventually take off.
"I know a lot of guys that are showing interest and a lot of girls as well," he said.
"It's a sport that definitely that would take off because you don't need too much equipment for it, you don't need a jacket or a ball or anything like that
i wonder if borat will be there
