Helps you maintain grip.
I use chalk, not just for deads, but for seated rows, dumbbell rows and even bench press. I find it helps me to connect with the bar a little better, mentally and physically. Also most commercial gyms have cheap crappy bars with dull slippery knurling. Chalk makes a huge difference if you are lifting with crappy bars and not using straps.
Amen to that. I use chalk for lat pulldown as well since the gym decided to replace the metal bars with plastic handled ones lol.
I had to switch from regular to liquid, I now make my own with isopropanol, but it's runnier and slightly messier than the Liquid Grip
