Free Lab Testing of your protein.
Over the past 6 months there have been some interesting findings in the Supplement Industry.
Unfortunately it is now clear that you don’t always get what you pay for.
Some products have proved to be right on spec, while others way under, and there is actually quite a bit in between. Whether its Australian products or U.S made products, there is a lot of variety and the only sure thing is that you can’t always rely on a label claim.
With effort we’ve put into the Reagent kits lately, we’ve been the central contact place for all of these discussions, and while some companies have gone from good to bad (thankfully), we were reminded just last week (from two different companies products), that there is still some pretty under dosed product on the market. It did all look a bit familiar, but we’ll leave that discussion for another day…….
Some brands are obviously linked, however many are clearly not, so issues exist from multiple places.
If you want your protein lab tested, simply contact us at proteintestingkit@bulknutrients.com.au
Fill out a form we supply and send the protein with the paperwork directly to NMI Laboratories (we’ll shoot you these details). You only pay for the postage to get them there, and only need to sacrifice 30g of each protein bag.
A few weeks later you’ll get the results from NMI. That way you will know exactly what you are buying. What you do from there is up to you, however without this information you will simply never know what you are paying for.
If you get shonky protein, we’d recommend you contact The ACCC as well as your local legislator, however that will be up to you. If nothing else you can contact your supplier and get a refund, while warning your friends what not to buy.
If you get good results, then you can use this as a positive endorsement for the company you buy from, so everyone wins – well those doing the right thing anyway.
Everyone is welcome to these tests, even those who have already requested our Reagent kits. If you have had a product fail a Reagent test, this would be a good way to secure a refund (as we have found the Reagent kits to be very accurate), however we’d encourage those who have bought all kinds of products to have them tested, in time hopefully the whole market will be scanned.
By making it as easy as possible for lab testing to occur, we hope that to create a more honest marketplace, which is starting to happen, and in turn create an environment for open communication for such issues. Please note we can’t have every product lab tested but we will do our best to ensure as many people’s products can be tested as possible. If a product has been tested many times, we may decline your test, but we will let you know the results that others have had, so you won’t be in the dark.
It’ll be great to see a spectrum of U.S brands particularly, as we haven’t seen a lot of that so far.
The benefit for us is that the public will be creating a clear log and time line of products and testing, and while we pay for the tests, it means we don’t have to employ any lawyers etc to do any testing on our behalf.
Finally, if it isn’t obvious by now, we recommend caution when printing lab tests on a message forum. While it is completely legal, you and the forum owner will obviously get some heat from disgruntled parties.
We know this isn’t a perfect plan and it isn’t one that by itself will fix all the issues, but by making it as simple and cost free as possible, it sure should help the situation.
To organise your lab test, simply email us at proteintestingkit@bulknutrients.com.au
