Yay, the RUNNING THREAD!!!!!
I started out running to get some cardio fitness years ago and fell in love with it. Up until recently, I was running almost every day or every other day. For the last year or so, it was not so much to maintain cardio fitness but just because I enjoy it so much. I don't count it as a workout. It's just pure joy.
I don't run on treadmills anymore. I love to be outdoors, on the road or in parklands/trails.
I've suffered a few injuries over the years. The worst hit my ankle and hip. Still getting my left hip to be as stable/strong as my right and my ankle injury now means I can't squat to depth at all. But I'm working on it.
I haven't been running for about 4 months as my trainers call it "cardio"
and I'm not supposed to do much of it or
I will lose muscle mass and weight. OK so today I went for my first 30 mins outing ... won't kill me if it's once in a while.
Usually break up the runs as parklands have hills and a variety of terrain. Hill sprints mixed up with steady state pace runs but I sometimes just head out with the stop watch and time myself over distance.
My pace was around 10km in 60mins or a bit less. Faster over 5km. I'm probably a lot slower now.
2012 goal is to run barefoot by Xmas. I started running in minimal shoes with forefoot strike around Xmas last year and found it was a lot more natural for me and I suffered no calf pain or anything. Still no issues so hopefully on track.
Great idea, Kaz
