So after reading about these again lately, thought it would be good idea for a challenge.

I was thinking

16kg for 6mins
24kg for 4mins
32kg for 2mins

Thoughts or adjustments?

Allowed to switch sides whenever you want.

I know I can do SFA at 32kg so time probably won't matter much on that one.

Good challenge.

That's the spirit! I think in crossfit, females generally use half the weight of males for KB's. Happy with that?

I will be using a 12kg.
4kg or 8kg for not so experienced.

Grrrr my post deleted itself.
Im using a 12kg, but females may find a 4kg for beginners, 8kg for those with some experience

Yep I'd go 12kg although with my left shoulder right now I might have to stick with 8kg for LHS. Depends on the day.

Love this challenge.

with my wonky shoulder, I find the hardest part is the bit where you have to stand. Sometimes feels like the KB is going to come crashing down on my head...

I did some testers today with 10kg and shoulder appears ok at that. Knee wasn't feeling the greatest after big hike on the weekend though so didn't push it yet.

This challenge is going to be tough!

I have KB training at 6am tomorrow morning. I bet she'll make us do some TGUs first up! It's so much harder in the dark first thing. Co-ordination is always an issue LOL

Start lighter mate! As in with no weight if you haven't done them before. Get the technique right first.

TLS

You know 24 is my only kb. I'll just have to use the barbell. (The wife's 3kg DB seems pointless.)
Anyway, while I was lying on the floor with the KB above me, I got in a few KB 2hand benchpress ;)

jzpowahz
15-03-2012, 02:30 PM
LOL. Yeah, 3kg is probably a good starter hey. Just get the motion down first. It's a tough movement!

one with right arm only. :p left shoulder fuckin cained half way off the floor.
ill be doing the 16kg challenge.

im no stranger to kb's, been using them for conditioning on and off for about 6 months. do love me a good kb challenge! trying to swing the 80kg? bell @ PTC was interesting...it more swung me!

i've got KB tomorrow morning at 6am in the dark at what I consider to be KB unco-ordinated happy hour ...

praying for no TGUs tomorrow....

and yeah, as the weight goes up, momentum becomes a dangerous thing!!

How about half the time for all in the original post then?

Timeah
16-03-2012, 05:38 AM
well most wouldnt get far with more than 16kg anyway :p
including me. it'd be like, do one tgu with 24kg, rest a bit, do another one...lol. i wouldnt get far before braining myself with that one. 6mins is okay for 16kg though.

if anything, id make 16kg the heaviest.
so 16 for say 2mins, 12 for 4, 8 for 6.
then it becomes more about speed and endurance. more like the swing challenge. speaking of which, i should do those ones again...

I'd like a KB snatch challenge or clean and jerk challenge!
Managed 4 TGUs with the 8kg this morning with my left shoulder holding up OK. Sounds totally pathetic but I was stoked the shoulder didn't die an unnatural death again. no pain either afterwards. going to try the 12kg again...

Timeah

good work there chilli!
no shoulder pain for is always a bonus haha.

snatch challenge would be good. from the floor though. :) not a swinging snatch. keeps it less technical plus requires more power.

Are you guys starting each TGU with the KB upright? Or starting with a press in the lowered position?

I have learnt both ways.

I've always started them with the bell overhead.

lol the trainer was stoked but I just felt the shame of my LHS although great sign of strength increase so maybe it's getting better faster than I thought! Aspiring to more.

Wow, snatches from floor...always done them with swings to get some momentum. might have to try that.
And sheesh, I'm more tired and sore after KB today than after my weight training on Wednesday

wow 24kg! that's awesome. Don't force the shoulder!
I managed 4 consecutive TGUs with the 8kg with my left shoulder. Slowly slowly getting better and stronger. Takes a while for it to get back to normal.

don't dis on the weight. Doing a TGU is challenging. Watch form on getting the leg straight before you swing the other one behind. They're so hard from a co-ordination point of view!!

Doing GREAT!!!!

be careful...I thought I suffered brain damage hitting myself in the head with a KB ... cartoon stars swirling around my head....

hardest part of the move for me is the lift to stand when holding the KB in left hand. Feels like my shoulder just wants to drop if I stand. A bit scary...good time to drop the weight smack on one's head.... LOL

Timeah
18-03-2012, 09:39 PM
yeah it was close to a braining...just lucky i was strong enough to prevent this. if it was 2 or 3 kg heavier id still be lying on the floor :p
