[Article] Vitamin D - Fortification of foods

Funny enough, just gave my brother my VitD tablets, and yesterday saw something about this on the news about most Australians being deficient in Vit D and should be add it too food...

Maybe if they didn't run bullshit scare campaigns like 'theres nothing safe about a tan' we wouldn't be in this situation.

I read about this in the paper today although my understanding about vitamin D was that your body can only utilize the vitamin D that it naturally produces and supplementation is worthless.

I think the important thing is that they get the methodology for testing right so it's more accurate and they can then assess what is meant by deficiency etc.

Mine is really low by any of the current standards because my liver doesn't like producing it even when I supplement.

But I don't agree with fortifying foods. This whole thing about adding in vitamins and omega 3 and other stuff into foods is just the wrong strategy for approaching dietary deficiencies.

There is no point in stripping a food of nutrition to then include it artificially and often where it doesn't fit.

Did you know that people who suffer from diabetes also suffer from low vitamin D count. So it is a must to take a vitamin d supplement to help balance the count out.
