Straps and Chalk Alternatives.

Gday guys. First of all i hate using straps when doing deads, but the gym i often go to has shit all knurling so its practically a smooth bar with lines on it. On top of that they dont allow chalk so as soon as any perspiring occurs the bar slips straght out when lifting heavy. I was just wondering of any alternatives to that that will increase grip.
I have a better bar at home where i do use chalk also but i train there after school for conveinence and to train with mates.
Cheers

Joel

I am in the same boat Joel, it is very frustrating. I have been going for sets of 5 as i find when really pushing it any more than 4 -5 and my grip fails.

I am going to smuggle some chalk in and see what they say. Maybe see if there is another BB around with better knurling. We found one at our gym and switched the BB's. Sometimes the bench one has better knurling for a dead as you lift from a different area on the bar.

Yeah i have tried that (bringing the chalk) but they didnt want it to mess up the place. Its a relatively new gym so the only have one BB and not fully equipped yet. Until they get better gear i might just stick to doing deads at home.

bring chalk in chalk bag
wipe chalk off bar after use

cant see them having any problems

There is a guy at my gym who uses sponges when doing exercises with dumbells. I've never tried it and not sure how it would work with deadlifts, but may be worth a shot.

yep sponge is pretty good for grip as it absorbs and sweat from your hands, and grips into even little bits of knurling...

I have not tried them on deads, different forces, they might still work, unless tehy allow the bar to roll, in your grip.
