Nice to see some exposure to athletes in Australia who dont play footy and cricket.

The Cardinals’ fourth signing class also has an international presence, 6-foot-8, 315-pound Rory Dew, who is from Melbourne, Australia. I’ll have more on the guy from Down Under in a little bit.

Now about the signee from Australia, Rory Dew, who was scheduled to play in a high school all-star game pitting Team USA against a squad composed of players from throughout the world Wednesday night in Austin.

Santiago said UIW learned about Dew from contacts Cards offensive line coach Tony Marciano has made through his work with all-star football camps.

“His progress will be rapid,” Santiago said of Dew. “He’s a great worker. He’s played American football for three years.”

I'm going to go out on a limb and say now that Dew will be among those who "make the bus" on UIW road trips in 2011.

Also, in terms of size, 10 of the 29 new Cardinals go 250 pounds or more in physical size. And the Aussie is the largest of them all. Rory Dew played at St. Kevins High School in Melbourne. He is an offensive lineman and he goes 6-8, 315. “This guy is all Coach (offensive line coach Tony) Marciano,” Santiago said. “Rory was in a football camp in Florida for the past month when we heard about him. We are now looking at international players.”
