Protein absorption

Hey guys,
Is it true that the body can only process a certain amount of protein per sitting?

So say if with my regular lunch with 200g of chicken breast i get say about 50g of protein with that alone, will that go down well, and say if i have cheat meal that has 100g of protein in a sitting?

The body is a complex machine designed for going long periods without food. Of course you can ingest 100g+ in a sitting.

There was a study which found that 30g of ingested protein increased protein synthesis but more than this didn't. Does that mean you will not use that extra 20g, no it doesn't it just means your rate of protein synthesis will not go any faster. Just eat and don't worry about it.

Because every 'body' is different, a different rate of protein synthesis will happen. If you think about it logicly though, if you look at the bell curve (pictured), please note that a large potion of the population deal with protein like each other. While a small portion of society would take longer to process protein, while others would process it in a flash!!!

That graph makes no sense... Another thing to keep in mind is that Red meat takes ages to be digested, chicken takes a while as well (I think around 6 hours). So having a protein shake with 100g protein may be a waste (as it's digested in 30 mins) but having meat of some discription may mean that your body uses a lot more of the protein due to the time it takes to digest

The graph is a typical description of how data is normally spread craft. It's just a representation of how most are found around the mean and less are found further from the mean. It's not actually specific to protein.

Oh right ok... Here is an interesting article showing that steak takes 24 hours to digest. It also shows that 97% of beef is digested by the body, however only 65% of vegetables

Exactly protein synthesis isnt the only role of amino acids... Think about precurssors to neurotransmitters and many other functions. (L-tryptophan, L-glutmaine) Roles in NO production... No one can measure everyfunction...

Also these studies are usually done form 10 nobodies doing leg extensions then they measure protein synthesis... Im almost certain that 400kg deadlifts would increase the need and ability of protein synthesis..

not to mention if there is a difference in the time of day, the body may be in more demand at some parts of the day for proteins rather than other parts. so whos to say even if you have 50g of protein in a sitting that if u did it again 3 hours later the body wont be ready to utilise that amount... even if a little goes to waste, the foods you are eating will have other nutrients in them, quote Noobs: theres more to life than protein, carbs and fats... and its so very true... i wouldnt be too worried about eating more than 100g or protein in a sitting, just eat a comfortable amount with a reasonable split, and a mix of bits of everything and itll all work out alright... some days i think people think into it all too much lol. always good to talk about tho :) im curious to see others repsonses

And if you over eat it it will just be inefficiently coverted to glucose :) Then maybe to fat :( but that's only if you total
calories are too high. Stop worrying and just eat I would take a 50g protein 30g carb meal over the 30g protein and 50g carb meal anyday due to the different effects on insulin.

If it were, then a guy who ate a kilogram of steak for lunch, and the rest of the day just ate spuds and vegies and fruit, this guy would have a protein deficiency.

Which is obviously not so.

It takes some hours for food to go through you anyway. By the time you have dinner, lunch is still in your guts unless you had something really quick to digest like water or fruit or something.

There's a reason most of the world's cuisines have three meals a day, with more cereals at breakfast and more meat or other protein-strong foods at dinner time.
