Opinions on Sushi

Hey everyone, I am new around here; trying to shift some stubborn weight after a few months away from exercise.

What are people’s view on sushi? I realise that the white rice is a high GI source of carbs and can give you the kind of insulin spike that inhibits fat-burning and there are good sushi combinations (tuna and avocado) vs the bad sushi (crispy chicken etc.) I am trying to limit my carb intake and have the minimum I can for breakfast and dinner. Am I setting myself up for failure by ordering the sushi or will the detrimental effect be fairly minimal?

Cheers
Sean.

If you are trying to keep carbs low for whatever reason then sushi probably isn't the best choice. Sticking to the non-fried ones will be much lower calorie overall. Sashimi is lower carb option as it is just the meat. No rice.

Having said that, if it fits into your calorie/macro targets then there is no reason not to have it.

I personally love Japanese curry and it fits perfectly into my meal plans on workout days :)

Salmon sashimi is the bomb! Little bit of mayo and soy sauce = gold.

A salmon and avocado roll is awesome as well.

Japanese pancake = amazing!

I'm not big on okanimiaki, but love oyakudon, katsudon, yakisoba and really love chicken teriyaki. But sushi is the best, sushi nigiri...none of this California rolls shit, never been one for them. Salmon, tuna are my faves.

okonomi-yaki is "what you like" "fried up"
pancake batter, shredded cabbage, then your choice of meats (pork/chicken/prawns/crab/whatever) with noodles, all fried up on a hotplate in front of you with mayo and BBQ sauce.

oyako don (mother and child on rice) (don = on top of bowl of rice)
crumbed and fried chicken schnitzel (cutlet = katsu) on a bowl of rice with egg on top.

katsu-don is usually pork schnitzel with BBQ sauce on top of a bowl of rice, often with Miso flavour sauce.. and the obligatory 3 or 4 green peas :D loks terrible, tastes GREAT!

how about making your sushi with brown rice, then you can stick whatever filling you want in it.. I like egg, salmon, avocado, cucumber, carrot and of course, heaps of wasabi! I've come across some health nuts that use quinoa to make their sushi too, but thats way too fushion for me at the moment lol.
