What is a Kettlebell, you might ask? It can be described as a shotput with a suitcase like handle welded on, they are made from cast iron and range from 4 kg to 64 kg. They were originally used to weigh grain, eventually they found their way into the Russian military and also became a favourite training tool for strongmen and wrestlers. Eventually finding their way into America they have become popular among elite athletes, military personnel, celebrities and law enforcement workers. Today fitness experts are claiming that this is the ultimate training tool for all round fitness and physical development. Unlike dumbells or barbells, the Kettlebell's centre of mass is displaced from the handle. This means the weight constantly pulls against your hand and requires not only strength and co-ordination when exercising with it, but also the recruitment of other muscles through your arms, shoulders and trunk. Everyone can benefit from Kettlebell training, from those who want to look and feel great to elite athletes of all kinds, A Kettlebell workout will develop your all-important body core - back, hips and trunk. They also burn fat at an amazing rate and are great for your cardiovascular system.:)

yeah kettlebells are good. But that little post there seems to make too big of a deal about them.

They add to a workout, however they aren't the work out.

Definitely great to use within your work out though if you can fit it and need some variation.

Personally the feel of dumbells is much more to my liking, but that is just a preference.
Also in saying that, I wouldn't use kettlebells for what I would use dumbells for.

Probably because you haven't been exposed to Kettlebell training. While they are not new in terms of their history, they are a new concept and apart from the internet and a few fitness stores which are starting to sell them literature on technique isn't easy to come by. They do offer a complete workout. It is a trend which is in its early days and is just finding its way into mainstream gyms. Kettlebell training has a big following, they are very addictive as well. Youtube has some great videos on technique. There are at least 1000 different exercises you can do with a Kettlebell. :)
