Why should I do aerobic exercise?
The heart is a muscle,so just like the rest of the muscles in your body it too needs to be excercises in order for it to become and remain strong and healthy. To work out your heart muscle you can do Aerobic exercises.

Aerobic means "with air," so aerobic exercise is a kind of activity that requires oxygen. At least 30 minutes of daily aerobic activity such as walking, bicycling or swimming can help you live longer and healthierWhen you give your heart this kind of workout on a regular basis, your heart will get even better at its main job — delivering oxygen. Aerobic exercise over time will strengthen your heart which will keep you fit and healthyand will help keep you and it healthy. Any form of aerobic exercise where the heart is working and you are having to 'puff' is beneficial to the heart. It can take some time to improve your heart health, but some functions such as oxygen delivery will improve almost immediately. You'll be surprised how good a little aerobic exercise will make you feel! With your heart working stronger it will work more efficiently at circulating oxygen rich blood around the body

Some of the other things that Aerobic training will provide finclude:
*Strengthening the muscles involved in respiration, to facilitate the flow of air in and out of the lungs
*Strengthening and enlarging the heart muscle, to improve its pumping efficiency and reduce the resting heart rate, known as aerobic conditioning
*Toning muscles throughout the body
*Improving circulation efficiency and reducing blood pressure
*Increasing the total number of red blood cells in the body, facilitating transport of oxygen
*Improved mental health, including reducing stress and lowering the incidence of depression
*As a result, aerobic exercise can reduce the risk of death due to cardiovascular problems. In addition, high-impact aerobic activities (such as jogging or jumping rope) can stimulate bone growth, as well as reducing the risk of osteoporosis for both men and women. In addition to the health benefits of aerobic exercise, there are numerous performance benefits:

So now we know the benefits that aerobic fitness training provides. Now, how do we get started?

What sort of aerobic exercise should I do?
Pretty much any form of activity that gets your heart pumping and your lungs working is considered to be an aerobic excercise. Such things as walking, swimming, sports, running, cycling, stair climbing, kickboxing, inline skating, rowing and much much more are all aerobic excercises. The great thing is that you don't need to go full out to get an aerobic workout simple tasks like walking more during the , take the stairs, park your car a little further away from the shop door. After awhile all the litte things add up

Jon,

He doesn't even respond to comments on the articles. I say, if you don't want a discussion, why post to a forum?

Have read sprinting is probably one of the best forms of cardio and safest forms of running. You only have to look at the physiques of sprinters. It also has a good ratio of anaerobic to aerobic ratios so isn't really going to waste the muscle away too much. Besides 6-10 x 100 metres sprints with 1-2 minutes rest is a pretty productive way to train. Fun too.

High Intensity Interval Training is exactely how sprinters train. Even when doing weights, they do it explosively with mid to high reps. It's the most natural way to train. I mean natural with a big N, as in running from a lion and exploding up a tree type of natural.

Fadi.
