Usually train in a gym that looks more like the first pic but when i was in Thailand trained at a really old school one like the gym in the second pic and LOVED it. Definitely prefer that style.
Training at a gym like no.1 atm but have trained at acouple of gyms likes 2 (just recently while I was away) and love the environment - was tempted to go down to my local pcyc to sign up where a few mates used to train back in the day - real old school, cheap - nothing fancy...
Ideally I would like to train somewhere which is a good combination of plenty of old school weights but also some of the newer type machines for those isolation movements.
As long as the right selection of kit is available and is mechanically fits well with my body e.g. suitable arms length for racking of bars etc.. Not too much padding on the benches so you sink in and chit.
All the little things like this can help or hinder a workout... even by a little.
My shed has a shiny squat rack but the rest is mismatched plates and some home made gear. I remember when I had a gym membership I spent half my time there reading what the machines were for.
