I'm wanting to buy a PS3 now so just wondering if anyone has any tips on where to look for good deals (I know the shops that sell them, but curious as to which ones you've had good experiences with) and also some tips on buying the PS3 itself haggling wise.
All of Australia's interweb nerds do the work for you and post up just about any deal available! A few weeks ago I got a 4gb xbox with the kinect and game for $279.

Good to see your not falling for the atrocity they call Xbox
Tips:
Always hit them up for a free HDMI cable
pay in cash and ask for a free accessory, game or controller (if you already own a HDMI cable)
Shop at EB Games - they have the best return policy and if it eventually dies they will give you $100 for the dead console. They also price match so if you take in a catalogue with a deal from another retailer they will beat it.
experience:
My original 60Gb PS3 died on me after 4 - 5 years of thrashing, traded it in to EB for $100 and put it towards a second hand 80Gb which after 2 years the sensor buttons started to get less sensative (sometimes wouldn't turn off by pressing the power button on the console) so sold it and bought my mates 120Gb slimline which I haven't had a problem with since (only been a few months).
IMO I'd suggest sticking with a brand new PS3 from the shop as it comes with 12 months warrenty and you know they haven't received a thrashing before arriving in your hands. You can also get some pretty good bundle deals that include extra controllers and games - for about $275 I believe.
