the exercise allows the olympic lifter to set the bar at about top of head height then you go to the bottom movement of a jerk and stand up with arms locked out.
So the lift can practice with the cleans with the weight, then practice with it overhead and all they have to do is swing the bar overhead. The thing is that the lifter then has extra confidence knowing they can hold the weight overhead.
it also enables the athlete to exercise with heavier weights overhead which provides strength training for the arms, triceps & shoulders.
Hence the safeties going to 190cm and higher
you got any thoughts about any other rack that fits?
But the function of the exercises are to build strength and confidence lifting weights you have not previously clean & jerked or snatched.
You have to know that when you come up with your arms locked out that the safety bars are there. Sure without the bars you could drop the weight but why not just have the safety bar so that you know the safety bar will catch the falling weight. OWL is a lot about confidence as well as strength and technique.
Additionally, the athlete can commence to do sets with heavier weights.
That Muscle Motion equipment is very very well made, heavy and solid.
Hammer Strength have a 8ft rack & a 9ft rack but they run out at $3500 to $4500 respectively. 9 ft rack i cannot quite get in the garage and the 8ft is ok but $3500 is about $1500 more than i want to pay.
New York Barbells have a great selection of racks but they want $2k for delivery alone but the rack is great and while I initially dismissed the idea I am starting to think that i could pay $700 for the rack and $2k for the delivery and it would still be $700 cheaper than the Hammer strength 8' rack which have safeties at not the right height anyways.
You know I really didnt think i was asking for anything to different in trying to get safeties at 190cm or taller but apparently i am.
But is this what you are talking about? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONOCAsR7QOU&feature=youtube_gdata_player]Charles Jerk Recovery 100x3 3/16/09 - YouTube[/ame]
I'd go with the force usa commercial rack. It's very good value for money at $1400. The matrix as a second options as it will cost about $2400 with all the attachments.
That rack is great. I rang iron edge up and and asked them if the spotting bars would do the trick for what i want to use it for i.e jerk recoveries (see above) and nope he reckoned they would bend over time. He said they are working on something but not at the moment.
I mean its got height and is solid and sturdy but there are no safeties. that is what they are working on right now.
Shame really. Because its not tinny & its got height.
