Squatting in flats or heels, what's the go?

As above what's the deal again?

I've been squatting Do Win heeled shoes for years. I've noticed of late though I'm coming up on my toes instead of heels and not sitting back properly. I squatted in flats yesterday and it was harder but felt "right" I drove through my heels.

Why do we wear heeled shoes again?

Worth noting I easily break parallel in either shoes, pretty sure the heels helped peeps go deep.

I do it for depth. After a couple broken ankles and too many torn ligaments my ankle flexibility is stuffed. Can't hit depth without my squat shoes.

If you can squat fine in flat shoes I see no problem.

It should be a matter of preference. If you are using heels to cover a lack of mobility (barring scenarios like bazza's) then IMO you are asking for trouble and should address that particular problem first. Fuzzy has the most convincing arguments for flats over heels so hopefully he responds lol

i still think the do-wins are too high and overload the quads a fair bit if your not using them for oly lifting. 1inch from memory?
If your a beginner it will mask any weaknesses/mobility issues if used. Better to just use flats if u can.

p.s
where u been graeme.. havent seen u around .. sick of telling people where to go? :D

I started with just flat shoes and put a small plate under my heals. When I started to squat a bit heavier this felt shit so I bought a pair of Do-wins, but since the start of this year I have trained in bare feet and it feels right. I have better overall balance and depth is not an issue at all anymore. I got the Do-wins as I was never able to push through my heals properly, I always lent on my toes when I got heavier. But now its the exact same thing, if I wear them i lean forward on my toes to much so I don't use them now.

Most people wear shoes with heels for work and when they go out, so I see no problem wearing them for training. Their good enough for the best lifters in the world...

Most people who constantly wear high heels have calf ankle and knee problems. Not the best argument

@hamburgler, I'm simply talking about dress shoes, Nike runners, Work boots, nearly all shoes have some sort of heel...
