Excess contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease... if consumed together with a diet high in saturated fats (meat and dairy fats). Alone, it does nothing.
As for processed food, with or without salt it's crap anyway. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegies, nuts and beans, some meat, fish and dairy, some rice, pasta, bread (grainy) and spuds, and you'll be right. If you can read, you can cook. If you have time to watch Today Tonight, you have time to cook.
Then you won't have to worry about added salt or MSG or artificial colours or any nonsense like that.
