Protein shakes bad for the liver?

SWH

New member
I'm not sure if this is true or not but my family friend got taken to a specialist about the supplements that he was taking and found out that what he was drinking could cause potential liver problems? I'm not sure what it was that he was drinking but has anybody else been told or heard of this? :/

Your family friend could have been taking all sorts of crap!
I haven't heard anything bad about the odd/frequent protein shake.

I suggest finding out more info and then post back so some of the knowledgeable types can provide feedback

3rd hand info about a supplement that your not sure of causing a problem your not sure about.

We probably need some more information. Lol.

Yeah i don't really know much but i just wanted to know if anybody has heard of like any sorts of supplements doing that kind of damage to the liver. I only use a max's WPC blend at the moment but i was just curious to see if this was true or not. thanks anyway

Yep i had this issue, i was taking some muscletech supps and i had my liver values done and it showed the enzymes were high.So i stopped taking them got re tested and they had returned to normal. So yes some supps can mess with your liver tho to what extent i am not sure.

Protein powder has nothing to do with it but more so EXCESSIVE PROTEIN INTAKE will have NO adverse effect on your liver, kidneys or the like.

Unless you have an underlying or existing problems there could be issues with high amounts of protein intake and creatine intake. All of which would have been indicated to you in previous trips to your doctor if you have had any blood work done.

I think a lot of people forget that protien powders are not "clean" and "pure" and in a recent study they were found to be laced with all kinds of heavy metals and toxic poisons.Basically most foods these days are fairly toxic unless you grow your own.Plus the tap water is so full of drugs used to sedate people and stop reproduction that together the bad food poison water poison supps is killing alot of people.Cancer rates are sky rocketing and its because everything is toxic. You think the plastic buckets you get your protein in are safe??? think again.

Great way to start a scare campaign!

While there has been some finds on CERTAIN manufacturers of protein powders (typically overseas varieties) have came up with higher than desired levels of toxins etc that is generally from un-ethical companies that do not follow the normally highly regulated and strict manufacturing process that are in place under the food manufacturing laws etc.

Australia and New Zealand have the most stringent and strictest manufacturing laws and processes in place to ensure the quality and purity levels of the high standards in the world.

A typical New Zealand WPI would have the following characteristics -

Typical Composition

Yep your exactly right thats why i only use tasmania protein but still what people dont realize is the chemicals they use to wash down all the equipment and massive tanks that are used in manafacturing actually leaves a residue on the tank wall and some of it ends up in the final product. But its a small dose and just so you know they may do a ten tone batch and only do one sample test out of it.Ontop of that they only do certain tests so if there not testing for it they wont find it.And tests can be expensive so there not always done remember large corporations save every cent where they can.And they couldnt give a shit about your health. There care about one thing and thats MONEY.Plus alot of the colors and flavors come from china these days and are of low quality and standards. So be safe XD

Fucking lol. drugged water supply, toxic food, poisoned buckets.

Haha this just keeps getting better. Got any other conspiracy theories going on.

If 'corporations' are trying to save money on doing test which they must LEGALLY have documentation for to meet the food standards or face huge fine or even possible closure, it goes to show that their credibility is lacking.

ALL food manufactures must have every single batch tested as it is a part of the food manufacturing practices for legal purposes and not to mention to adhere to the standards require to keep their manufacturing licence etc.

Protein shakes are about as bad for your liver as chicken breast and salmon.

On a list of things bad for your liver, protein shakes are towards the bottom.

How regularly do you smoke/drink?

Can you provide a link to the study??

I don't want to be eating heavy metals and toxic poisons....

(or injecting myself with dodgy hormones from unknown sources either ;) )

was it cell-tech that caused your liver problems??

I'm not a smoker and I hardly drink. I don't have any existing liver problems that I know of and I know that protein shakes in general aren't dangerous, if they were then they wouldn't be so widely used! but I was just wondering if anybody has had problems with particular supplements. But I do agree. Just looking for opinions

Any half decent food/beverage company will be taking rinse swabs to validate their cleaning process. During this process they test for residual cleaning agents amongst other things.

If evidence of these tests are lacking the company will face the consequences as per Max's post.

bazza if you want another fact lets talk about salmon and about how it has been spliced with spider dna to make them bigger along with other unwanted effects and released into nature. They say withing 5 fish generations almost all of the original salmon will be wiped from the oceans. So think about that every time you eat a nice big peice of spider salmon.Ive got plenty more but you would never believe it because its way over your head.

If any of you actually think that large companies are taking swabs from the machines you clearly live in a state of complete denial.I worked at cadburys chocolate factory and the things i saw would blow your mind.Mass food production is anything but clean and i never once saw a swab taken from any tank anywhere in cadburys.and i was on the main cleaning crew. Also all you have to do is look at all the big pharma recals on cold and flue meds where they didnt even clean the machines between making different drugs. If its cheaper for them not to clean it and pay a fine they will do so, its all about money. The only law of the land is that of money and these big companies are big employers and big contributors to the politician re election cofers and they have all the perks of having politicians in there hands and use that power. There are no countries anymore just corporations and big business/banks running governments.
