Yeah i think you need to look into things a little, for the Wife, 3yo son and myself we might spend about $100 a week at a supermarket, and then every second week or so will goto a bulk meat butcher and get about $100 worth of meat, I buy whole rump steaks for about $9/kg or scotch fillet for about $12, then 20 chicken breasts at between 6 - 8/kg.
We figure if we are going to eat we are going to eat well so always make sure our food both fruit, veg and meat is good quality.
How much free time do you guys have to shop around ?
Or you wife does it
Yeah I know you could get it cheaper but I find the guys really look after me and the prices are way cheaper then an ordinary butcher or one of the supermarkets, plus the meat quality is top notch which I don't mind paying for quality.
Plus for lamb I know someone who I can get full or half lambs off at top prices which is also a bonus.
I don't tend to cook meals and freeze them. Reheated chicken breast is fucken feral.
I love the slow cooker though. Use cheap cuts of beef and they come out tasting as good as the expensive cuts.
My missus entered a competition a while back "in 25 word or less why do want to win a slow cooker" she answered just pure crap but won it. Best thing ever for cooking (in the winter time anyway) Corned Silverside is to die for in it.
Going off topic but I do pulled pork in the slow cooker, overnight marinade in a dry rub, then low and slow in the cooker for 8 hours in chicken stock, chilli, onion, brown sugar etc
A weber smokey mountain for ribs and pork butt would be the ultimate for low and slow cooking...
