At Bioflex and Bulk Nutrients recently we were asked by a customer about LCLT (L-Carnitine L-Tartrate). Though we don't stock this product we were wondering if anyone on the AUSBB Forum has had any experience with it and what the greater community at AUSBB think about it. Over to you guys....

The primary role of L-Carnitine is to transport fatty acids into the mitochondria.

Some studies have found supplementing with L-Carnitine by either oral or infusion of 4+ grams per day have not shown an increase of Skeletal muscle stores. It also has poor oral absorption (~20% uptake). It has generally been found to be pretty much ineffective as fat loss agent.

Other studies done on both resistance training and endurance training show some MINOR benefits with VO2 Max, fatty acid oxidization, muscle breakdown (on high repetitions) and concentration of androgen receptors.

For the general public, it sells well just due to what I explain in the first sentence. For actual benefits, I don't see any merits of supplementing L-Carnitine unless a carnitine deficiency is present.

What about rectal administration (not trolling, I've shoved drugs up my ass to get high before and I'm willing to do it again, as long as there is a benefit)

lol, I was just kidding but if there was something that let me build double muscle BUT it had to be taken rectally it would deffo go up there

I think I'm just going to leave that right there and walk away slowly.........

I should have elaborated a bit more.
What benefits does LCLT have over plain L-Carnitine?

Same same Shrek.

HCL, Tartrate etc are just 'transportation' molecules. Just like there is Tri Creatine Malate and Creatine Ethl Ester. The base of it is still the same.

Cheers.

What about ALCAR? I have some ALCAR at home waiting to be used?

Same, same???

(Acetly L-Carnitine)

With ALCAR it has been shown in some studies to increase mental/brain function by having an effect on dopamine levels. It would be suggested the Acetly molecule is behind it (I'm guessing that is why there is Acetyl L-Tyrosine available), though nothing has confirmed that for sure in anything i've seen. It has shown no other benefits over L-Carnitine.

Thanks Kev.

I'll start using 5gms twice per day. I need all the brain stimulation I can get...LOL

Don't we all!

From the literature I've read, the findings where done on 2-3 gram serves. So that might give you some more serves to play with

We've always stuck to the Acetylated version over the regular as the mental stimulation thanks to it crossing the blood brain barrier is usually seen as a positive.

Would be interested to see if anyone has used The Tartrate version and beileve there is any benefit of it over regular carnitine base or the acetylated version.
