the criteria for choosing winners isn't to make fun of science - it's to highlight science that makes you laugh and then think. Science, when done properly, leads to many odd lines of investigation and we shouldn't be deterred or censored in that investigation just because it seems "silly" on the surface. After all previous ig Nobel laureates include Andre Geim who, after winning an ig Nobel for levitating a frog went on to win the Nobel Prize for Physics for inventing graphene.
