maybe not. maybe it's the calorie density of food so choice of foods/variety needs to change.
When we say eat more it implies eating more calories. Gaining weight is simple there is no mystery behind it.

Just to add, if she starts lifting weights, the furnace will burn stronger and she will feel like eating more.
So put a barbell on her and get her squatting.
